This Sunday will be one of our busiest of the summer. Of course we'll worship as we always do at 8:00, 11:00, and 5:30. At 9:00, the parish life committee is sponsoring Pajamas and Pancakes, serving up fresh pancakes to the whole parish and inviting kids to come to church in pajamas (that's optional). At 9:30, our ongoing adult formation series Know Your Neighbor welcomes Compass for Hope to the Berlin Room to tell us about their work among our neighbors in need. Throughout the morning, we anticipate having youth from across the diocese spread out through the building on their way home from the national Episcopal Youth Event in Baltimore—they're crashing at Saint Paul's after a long bus ride home on Saturday, and then dispersing back home over the course of Sunday morning. Then at 4:30, Second Sundays with Creation Care is hosting local filmmaker Mark Albertin for a showing of his film Sacred Waters: the Okefenokee in Peril, in the River Room.
At first glance, there doesn't seem to be a unifying thread through all this activity: worship, fellowship, learning about the needs of our neighbors, hospitality, and celebrating and caring for the wonders of God's world. But maybe we don't notice the unifying thread because it's so obvious: these are some of the many things we do in response to the inestimable gift of the love of God. Because God loves us (and we sometimes even believe that God loves us), we worship, enjoy each other, serve our neighbors, provide food and housing to travelers, and rejoice in and steward this fragile earth, our island home. What a gift and privilege it is to live together in response to God's love.

This Sunday: Compass for Hope
|
Throughout the summer, we’re inviting some of the best organizations at work in our neighborhood to join us in conversation about their work, the needs and resources they see, and how we might deepen our relationship with them. These conversations will add new voices to our discernment, and it is our hope they will better equip us to proclaim the hope of God’s love to our neighbors.
Mark your calendars for these important conversations:
July 16: Hornsby Elementary
July 23: Christ Community Health

After pancakes in Tyler Hall (9:00 AM), our kids are invited over to our Sunday School class (9:45 AM) for music, story, and fun! Everyone is invited to wear their favorite pajamas, so you don’t even have to get dressed that day. It will be a terrific way for us to reconnect in a relaxed way.
