Invasion of the Pines & Much More

Dear Karen,

I love 4th of July in the Pines!!!

Invasion of the Pines

Get ready for the Invasion of the Pines in our harbor this Monday, July 4th. Festivities will begin around 1PM under the tart tongue of Shequida for the second year in a row. We will also feature entertainment from Issa & Odessa Dragon, an award-winning multidisciplinary performance duo based in Brooklyn, and Adam Sarette, an LGBTQ+ singer/songwriter and multi-hyphenate artist based in NYC. And we will be delighted once again this year by the voices of our very own Fire Island talents, Rose “Bob” Levine and Luis Villabon. Once the invading queens arrive, we will turn the microphone over to Panzi.

As the Invasion has grown more and more elaborate over the years, so too has the cost of production, safety and security. I am pleased to share that this year’s Invasion is being sponsored by Deutsche Bank as part of their celebration of queer spaces. Special thank you to Raf Kuhn and Jon Tilley, both members of the Deutsche Bank team, for their collaboration with FIPPOA and the Pines Foundation.

Come to the harbor and enjoy the show, but please leave your coolers, chairs and umbrellas at home or on the beach. Heels, though, are welcomed. My lime-green, size 15, medium heeled glam shoes arrived on Tuesday’s package boat. Get yours while there is still time!

Sayville Ferry Service Cancellation

During the Invasion, the 2:20PM boat leaving Sayville and the corresponding 2:45PM boat leaving the Pines will be cancelled; all other boats (running on the Sunday holiday schedule) are expected to run as posted.

Beach Walkway Signage

FIPPOA seeks to collaborate with the Fire Department to consider ways we can help make their critical work safer and more effective. In addition to the house number paintings on the boardwalks, which was partially completed last year, Chief Joe Geiman asked that FIPPOA consider installing Walk signage on the beach so that departments responding from other communities will more easily locate their point of access when providing mutual aid and to assist anyone experiencing an emergency identify their location. You will soon notice signage on all eleven walkways connecting the beach to the Pines just like this one on Nautilus Walk.

Mosquito Spraying

Suffolk County Vector Control will begin mosquito fogging in the Pines on Thursday, July 7th from 5:30 to 9:30PM and will continue to do so on a weekly basis. For more information including who to contact with questions, please reference this flyer.

Party Party MMXXII

Bacchanalia is fast approaching, and tickets are expected to sell out. Discounted tickets and passes are available at pinesparty.com through July 4th, after which prices will increase and tickets/passes will be subject to availability. Complete your purchase before July 5th, and don’t miss out on the festivities!

FIPPOA Election – Third and Final Notice

Any regular member of FIPPOA interested in running for a board seat or any of the four executive officer positions must notify Claudia Tropp (claudiaceleste@yahoo.com) of their interest by Friday, July 8th.

See you in my lime-green size 15 chunky heels on the 4th!

Dr. Anthony G. Santomauro, a long-time Pines resident with his husband of 53 years, Jeffrey Hoffman, died at his home in Fairfield, CT on June 21, 2022 after a six-month struggle with cancer. He was interred on June 25th with full military honors.

Anthony grew up in Franklin Square, NY. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from St. John’s University and received his medical degree and postgraduate training at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, specializing in OB/GYN. He served as a Major in the US Air Force during which time he began to specialize in infertility treatments. He became well known in that field, developing techniques he taught to many colleagues and residents.

Anthony was a talented artist, and after retirement increasingly focused on his works. He was invited to join the Salamagundi Club in New York, was a member of several art organizations in Connecticut, and was represented digitally in European arts groups.

Anthony was a devoted friend, a warm and welcoming host, and lover of a good joke (although he had trouble delivering them because he would always start to laugh before the punchline.) He will be very much missed.
