Project SEARCH

If you have stopped by University Transportation Services this year you may of seen a few extra smiling faces. University Transportation Services staff have had the pleasure of mentoring several Iowa State University Project SEARCH interns this school year. We will be saying, "Until we meet again" in just a few short weeks as graduation is coming soon for five students, four of which worked with our staff this past year. So what is Project SEARCH, you may ask?

"Project SEARCH is a unique business-led, one-year, school-to-work program that takes place entirely at the workplace. The total workplace immersion facilitates a seamless combination of classroom instruction, career exploration, and relevant job-skills training through strategically designed internships. The goal for each intern is to gain competitive employment upon the completion of the program."

AGILE TIPS AND TRICKS

MAKING A RESERVATION

Making a reservation in Agile is fast and easy. Click "Make Reservation" from the Agile home screen. Enter the driver's netID or choose yourself. On the next screen:

Enter the pick up date and time
Enter the return date and time
Choose the location of pick up, either UTS (Haber Rd) or the Research Park
Choose the type of vehicle
Enter the number of occupants
Choose the department you will be driving for
Enter the destination
Enter the purpose of your trip
This field is optional, primarily used for Student Organizations
Select the type of Worktag you are using; Program, Project, Grant or Gift
Enter the Worktag exactly as listed in Workday
Optional, based on your department's needs. Choose Dept Detail if your secondary Worktag starts with DD.
Optional, based on your department's needs. Enter the Department Detail or Work Order number if provided by your department.
If you are using more than one Worktag, select the percentage you would like to apply to each Worktag. If you only have one Worktag, choose 1.00

FUEL SAVINGS

Fuel costs are on the rise. Some areas of the United States has seen fuel prices over $5.00 per gallon for unleaded gasoline. Here are a few tips to maintain fuel efficiency from the US Department of Energy:

Drive sensibly to avoid unnecessary braking and acceleration
Remove excess weight from the vehicle
Avoid idling when the vehicle is parked
Observe the speed limit
Do not carry cargo on your roof
Use cruise control
Keep your engine properly maintained
Keep tires properly inflated
Use the recommended grade of motor oil
Telecommute or carpool when available. ISU has an employee van pool program for eligible employees.

Shift-on-the-Fly for Safety

SEATBELTS, NOT JUST A LAW

Every seven and a half minutes a crash occurs in Iowa. Three out of four crashes occur within 25 miles from home, and fatal crashes can occur at less than 40 mph. Seatbelt use is required by law, but that isn't the only reason you should buckle up.

Seatbelts have been proven to save lives. The impact of a 35-mph crash is like a head-first dive from a three-story building, and 7 in 10 people will be in a traffic crash in the next 5 years. One in three will be in a serious crash sometime. Safety is just a click away!

Always read your car owner's manual to use the vehicle's seatbelt correctly. Shoulder belts should be worn tight over your shoulder, and lap belt low. Do not wrap the seatbelt under your arm. Properly worn, safety belts hold people in place in all kinds of crashes.
