October 25 - November 3, 2024 | |
Your Saint Paul’s vestry met on Monday for a regular meeting that wasn’t completely regular. This being the first session post-Helene, important discussion focused on the well-being of our parishioners. We each find ourselves somewhere along the continuum of impact from the storm. Some are faring well; others have a long road to recovery. As your vestry, we want our church family to know that Saint Paul’s clergy, staff, and leadership are still here to help, to provide comfort, to listen, to offer prayers. We’ll work to stay attuned to the needs of the parish, and we can remember we’re all called to minister to one another.
The vestry also discussed the manner in which Saint Paul’s was able to be a comfort to so many after the storm. Since the church didn’t lose power, we were able to offer a cool place to sit and charge phones, to eat a hot meal, or to obtain water and ice. Those who came were touched by this outreach to the community, and the community witnessed Saint Paul’s, hard at work, loving our neighbors.
Ian McQueen, vestry liaison for Music & Liturgy, provided a Deep Dive report on the indispensable ministries of Music & Liturgy: Altar Guild, Acolyte Guild, Choirs, Flower Guild, LEM & Lectors, Ushers, Audiovisuals, and Linen Guild. Ian also noted that several of these groups have added new members, and each of the ministries welcomes new members into their ranks.
Finally, I’ll touch on our Fall Stewardship Campaign. Though Helene managed to disrupt our October calendar of stewardship events, the stewardship committee is not daunted. We’ve shifted our activities into the first part of November, so be on the lookout for information about stewardship gatherings and a mailing which will show how our giving enables the life-giving and hope-filled mission of Saint Paul’s.
With gratitude for community,
Kitty Gordon

Above: Minta and Cobbs Nixon share a reflection on stewardship at Saint Paul's
with a brief introduction by Fr. Biddy.
| |
Our fall giving campaign is off to a fine start despite being delayed and rearranged by the hurricane. Last week our honorary chairs, Cobbs and Minta Nixon, offered engaging reflections on the importance of supporting the mission of the church. This Sunday our stewardship committee co-chairs will share their perspectives on stewardship, Kitty Gordon at the 11:00 service and Erick Montgomery at the 5:30 Celtic service.
In the coming days please be on the lookout for an invitation to attend a stewardship gathering. One purpose of these gatherings is simply to provide an opportunity for fellowship. We'll also talk about the vital work of Saint Paul's and how our generous giving makes our mission possible.
More information about the campaign will be mailed to each household. Keep an eye out for this envelope; it contains your pledge card (estimate of giving) which you can mail to the church or place in the offering plate, or you may wish to go to the website and submit your pledge online.

Save the Date: CSRA Walk for Water
November 9
The CSRA Walk for Water returns this year and once again Saint Paul’s is the midway point of the walk. We’re excited to support this event and invite you to join this important work.
In this season of Thanksgiving, the walk is a tangible way to increase gratitude for our many blessings and love for our neighbors. We will gather at the SRP Park on Saturday morning at 8:30 AM. We will walk with empty pails from the SRP Park baseball field in North Augusta to the Saint Paul’s parking lot. We will fill our pails and walk back to the park.
The Walk for Water puts a creative twist on the typical “fundraising walk.” This walk connects us with the trek billions make every single day to carry home untreated water for basic subsistence.
You can support this event by joining our walking team, volunteering to serve as hospitality at Saint Paul’s, or giving to our Saint Paul’s team. More details to come.

Next Step in the Diocese of Georgia's Strategic Planning Process
Episcopal Diocese of Georgia Vision Survey
One of the desired outcomes of the "Living Hope" visioning effort is the opportunity to connect and listen to parishioners, clergy, youth, and lay leaders throughout the Episcopal Diocese of Georgia. Please share your feedback on the strengths, challenges, and opportunities for the Diocese now and in the future by completing a survey.
| "As followers of Jesus, we are called not simply to have hope, but to live the hope within us as we put our faith into action. This is why we named our strategic planning process “Living Hope.” Our visioning process is primarily intended to help the people of the Diocese discern how the Holy Spirit is leading us into the future." | | | |
