Walking Wednesdays
Starting November 6th, we will be meeting at the outdoor area of the Lexington Market along Paca Street at 12:05 to walk around campus. We will wait around for about 5 minutes and get walking at 12:10 to allow people from all over campus time to get to the market. We will plan to wrap up by 12:40 to allow folks to eat lunch and/or get back to their offices for afternoon meetings.
This is a very casual meetup and is a way to meet other people around campus, while also getting in some steps. Walking Wednesdays will take place every other week and may be canceled due to inclement weather or holidays. You can join the Microsoft Team here for updates if there is bad weather or to find other walkers.

Ecoacoustics
Ecoacoustics is the study of ecological acoustics, in which vibrational energy, sonification and human-nature interaction are examined through technological mediation (such as transduction and computation), using scientific methods to parse the environment through acoustics. Matthew Burtner is an Alaskan-born composer, sound artist and eco-acoustician. His music has been performed in concerts around the world and featured by organizations such as NASA, PBS NewsHour, the American Geophysical Union (AGU), the BBC, the U.S. State Department under President Obama, and National Geographic. He has published three intermedia climate change works including the IDEA Award-winning telematic opera, Auksalaq. In 2020 he received an Emmy Award for “Composing Music with Snow and Glaciers” a feature on his Glacier Music by Alaska Public Media.
Watch this video by Indie Alaska and PBS to see Matthew's process.
