Return to In-Person Events

We are so excited to finally be ramping up our in-person events again! In the upcoming months we will be holding two "Let's Collaborate for Kindness" events in conjunction with Anne Arundel County Public Libraries. At these events come spread kindness with Kindness Grows Here and Action for Kindness. Be inspired by the young winners of KGH's Kid Kindness Grants program and create your own BE KIND sign to inspire those in your neighborhood to spread kindness too. Sign supplies and pizza will be provided:

On Friday, April 28t at Deale Library, from 5-7 p.m. Register here.

On Saturday, April 29, at Brooklyn Park Library from 11-1.

We are also in the middle of planning our first ever event in Howard County, Maryland to be held in May/June. Be on the lookout for more details to come!

Why is it Important to Foster Kindness in Kids?

Studies have shown that kids who are intentionally and systematically taught the concepts of kindness and then go on to have opportunities to demonstrate that kindness, develop an enhanced sense of safety, support, and acceptance. (2018, US Department of Education). Additionally, new research shows that "People suffering from symptoms of depression or anxiety may help heal themselves by doing good deeds for others." Kindness isn't just a nice thing to do. It truly helps to improve the health and wellbeing of those who engage in kind behavior. Knowing how impactful kindness can be, we started our Kid Kindness Grant program in 2018.

This year we celebrated the 5th year of this impactful & meaningful program. Over the last 5 years we have given over $44,000 in grants to children in 31 States and 4 Countries. These grants have resulted in over 33,000 people being the direct recipient of a kind act! (And counting!...Grant recipients have until June of this year to complete their kindness project. So, we don't even know how many people have been impacted yet by our 2022 grants).

This years grants included:

  • 94 total applications
  • 39 grants awarded
  • $13,764.49 total dollars given out
  • Grants awarded in 14 States including Florida, Iowa, Michigan, & Nevada (which were new States for us).
  • 1 grant given to a group of students in Guatemala who wanted to expand their local library.

If you know a young person, encourage them to start thinking about how they can spread kindness in their school, neighborhood, or larger community. Applications will open again on September 1, 2023 and remain open until November 1st.
