ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL BRUNCH
A unique thing will be happening during the summer Sunday School quarter at AVPC. On the last Sunday of each month, which also happens to be communion Sunday, all the adults will gather in Fellowship Hall for a brunch and fellowship time. So much has happened during the past two plus years of COVID, and the leaders of AVPC feel the need to set aside some times dedicated to being together as a church family. Each Sunday will feature some general mingling time around a delicious brunch, as well as some special events designed to strengthen our fellowship as a church. During the remaining ten weeks of the summer quarter, we will have our normal Sunday School classes, which are as follows:

Pilgrim’s Class – Dan Dougherty, James Walls and Barry Parker will co-teach this class, which will focus on various psalms. Each teacher will pick out his favorite psalms and teach on those during his week.

Fellowship Hall Class – This class will continue our emphasis this summer on “A Theology of Work.” Andy Coats, Paul Barber, John Wimberly and Luis Orteza will teach various aspects of this important and relevant topic.

Acton Hall Class – This class will focus its attention on questions 1-29 of the Westminster Larger Catechism. This rich and ancient resource assists us in our spiritual formation, that we might resist a world that is desperately trying to form us according to its image instead of the image of Christ. This class will be team-taught by Michael MacCaughelty, Brent McClenny and Scott Wilson.

Young Adult Class – Blake Harris will continue to provide leadership for this class, in a topic to be announced shortly. The Young Adult Class meets in the Mezzanine Room (above the church kitchen).

Either way, get ready for a fun-filled adventure that will surely be something to write Holmes about!

GENERAL ASSEMBLY IN BIRMINGHAM
The General Assembly of the PCA denomination is being held in Birmingham this year, June 21-24, and our Presbytery (Evangel) is hosting. Volunteers are needed from every church and there are a number of ways in which you can help. To view serving opportunities, or to sign up, go to General Assembly Volunteer Sign-Up. Also, did you know that there are numerous activities planned for women, children and families? A complete schedule of the conference can be found here:General Assembly Full Schedule. Note that visitors are invited to join the worship services on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Service times vary so check the schedule.
GENERAL ASSEMBLY
Some have expressed interest in the past in the overtures that come before our annual denomination, referred to as the General Assembly. An overture is simply a request for action that some member of our denomination or a court of our church thinks the General Assembly should take. That Assembly will take place here in Birmingham on June 21-24. If you are interested, you can check out these overtures by following THIS LINK.
COVID PROTOCOL
Both early and late services are mask-optional in the Sanctuary; seating in the Parlor is social distanced and mask-required for the early service.

Please label your painting or drawing with your name, media type and the name of the artwork, then drop it off in the choir room BY MAY 31. Your piece must have either a sawtooth hanger or wire hanger. We look forward to seeing your creativity!
MISSION TRIP OPPORTUNITY
Jeremy Martin has contacted us about a unique opportunity to serve his ministry in London this summer! He is looking for a team of eight adults to help repair the ministry house in Southall, London. This team will be made up of people from other churches, not just AVPC.
For many years the ministry house's doors have been opened to Asylum Seekers, Refugees, or people who needed help getting back on their feet. All who come to the house receive an open invitation and the love of Jesus. Now, parts of the exterior have become damaged and are in need of repair. The project will consist of painting, construction, and landscaping at the property. There will also be guided exploration of Southall and even opportunities to share Jesus with local residents.

Dates of Trip:
August 20 - 27, 2022 (depart US on August 19)

Per Person cost of trip:
$1550 + airfare (includes room, meals, ground transportation, building material and local labor). If you are interested please contact Jeremy Martin:
