Construction Update

Champlain Parkway Project

DATE: Friday, December 1, 2023

SPECIAL NOTICE:

TODAY, Friday, December 1, is the last day the contractor (SDK) will be performing major construction activities before the winter shutdown. Major construction activities will resume in the spring. Please note, SDK will maintain an on-site presence throughout the winter shutdown. Crews may be seen performing field inventory work, such as potholing in preparation for future work.

Over the next two weeks, SDK will conduct minor construction activities throughout the project area in preparation for the winter shutdown. East Coast Signals will be on-site installing traffic signals along the Champlain Parkway throughout the winter.

DURATION:

Work throughout the winter shutdown will continue to be restricted to between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS:

Throughout the winter shutdown, work will take place predominantly off the roadway with minor impacts to traffic.

CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES:

Tree Planting

Crews will continue planting trees along the Champlain Parkway between Home and Lakeside Avenues over the next two weeks. This work will take place off the roadway with no impact on traffic.

Landscaping

Over the next two weeks, landscaping crews will be on-site to install brick pavers on Flynn Avenue at the entrance to City Market and the pocket park on the northeast corner of Flynn Avenue at the Champlain Parkway. This work will take place predominately off the roadway. There is the potential for short shoulder or single-lane closures to complete this work.

Sign Installation

Crews will continue installing permanent roadway signage throughout the project area. Next week, crews will install any remaining signage along Home Avenue, Flynn Avenue, and Pine Street before moving onto the Champlain Parkway. This work will take place predominately off the roadway. There is the potential for short shoulder closures along Home Avenue, Flynn Avenue, and Pine Street to facilitate the installation of any remaining signs.

Traffic Signal Installation

East Coast Signals will be on-site throughout the winter shutdown, working to install the traffic signal equipment at the intersections of the Champlain Parkway at Home Avenue, Flynn Avenue, Sears Lane, and Lakeside Avenue. This work will take place predominantly off the roadway; however, some installation work may require a short shoulder closure or lane closure to install any overhead equipment.
