Greetings Students, Community Members, and Partners –
This is an exciting time of the year for our college. We are now preparing for fall registration to begin on April 8. This will be the first semester since the beginning of spring 2020 in which we will be fully back to “normal”--- meaning the majority of our offerings will be in person. While we will continue to offer some online courses, we believe our specific model works best when we are able to physically see and interact with our students.
With that noted, we have been working on several new opportunities for our students. Below are descriptions of our new fall initiatives.

New Programs & Program Expansions
Land Surveying Coming to Fairbanks |
We are excited to be offering a new program, Land Surveying and Mapping Technology, at Houston North Fairbanks in the Fall 2022 semester.
Through intensive hands-on experience, this program prepares students to utilize state-of-the-art equipment to determine and measure the physical features of the earth’s surface. In under one year, students can earn their Level 1 certificate and obtain a career.
| | |
ESOL Expanding to Greenspoint |
The ESOL program, currently offered at HN-Fairbanks, will begin offering courses in Fall 2022 at our HN-Greenspoint location. Under the guidance of highly qualified professors, ESOL courses assist students in learning and improving their abilities to read, write, and speak in English.
We offer courses in grammar, oral communication, writing, and reading that will prepare you for a future job or to future your academic career.

Business Program moving to Fallbrook |
Business has consistently been one of the top workforce programs for Lone Star College. Therefore, we are moving the program so that it can be grouped with other business-based programs such as Logistics Management and Esports.
Students will now be able to earn multiple stackable credentials (i.e. Certificate 1, Certificate II, AAS, and AA Field of Study) covering topics such as leadership, management, marketing, human resources, and finance.
| | |
New Mechanical Design Cohort this Fall |
We are starting new cohorts for our Mechanical Design program at Fairbanks this fall. Students will learn how to prepare technical drawings and plans, and utilize state-of-the-art computer programming such as AutoCAD and Solidworks to make those plans come to life with our 3D printers.
Students will experience a highly engaging, energetic, and hands-on classroom environment to prepare and develop students for their future careers.
| | |
Computer Science Certificate 1 offered at Fallbrook |
In addition to the Mobile Application and Web Design program, students will also be able to receive a certificate 1 in Computer Science this fall. These two programs have similar first-semester courses.
Therefore, by adding this credential, students will have more flexibility when seeking employment.
| | |
Esports launching at Fallbrook |
We are also planning to launch our first Esports cohort this fall. This program will be the first of its kind for community colleges in Texas.
Students will learn the business management side of the Esports world while also enjoying the gaming aspect from within our eSports room at our Fallbrook location.

New Programs & Program Expansions
Two New P-TECH Partnerships |
LSC-Houston North will begin two new P-TECH (Pathways in Technology Early College High School) programs.
These programs are designed to allow students to earn a workforce credential and/or AAS degree while still attending high school.
The programs are:
- Carver PTECH will begin offering classes toward the Land Surveying certification.
- Evolution Academy will offer the Associate of Arts in Teaching degree and Business Operations Certificate.
| | |
New Dual Credit Partnerships |
In addition to the aforementioned P-TECH programs, LSC-Houston North will welcome two new dual credit partners.
-
Klein Forest will partner with LSC-Houston North Fallbrook regarding a dual credit pathway in Logistics Management. Students will earn a workforce credential in Logistics while pursuing their Associate of Arts degree.
-
Spring Independent School District will also partner with LSC-Houston North Fallbrook to provide Logistics Management and Associate of Arts in Teaching pathways to Westfield and Dekaney high schools.

New Recruitment Initiatives
At Lone Star College, we are not only committed to enrolling students, we also are just as committed to their completion. We understand how frustrating it can be for students not to be able to get the classes they need for their program. Therefore, we have developed 12 guaranteed schedules for our incoming freshmen. The schedules are offered at different blocks throughout the day (i.e. morning, afternoon, etc.) and will allow students to enroll in 12 credit hours (two classes in the first 8-weeks and two in the second) in consistent time slots. These schedules will place students on track to graduate in a timely manner no matter if they are attending full or part-time.
Acres Homes Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Scholarship |
I am very excited to announce that the Acres Homes Chamber of Commerce for Business and Economic Development will offer scholarships to Lone Star College-Houston North students enrolled in workforce programs at the LSC-Houston North Victory location.
Eligible programs include Criminal Justice, Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC), Human Services, and Welding. To qualify, students must apply, enroll in a minimum of 6 credit hours, and be from the Acres Homes community.

Houston North Academy (HNA) | Lone Star College-Houston North restarted the HNA program this spring. This initiative enables college staff to work with a group of seniors that are not dual credit, not top 20 percent, and may not have made a decision about going to college. These students are provided with application, financial aid, registration, TSIA preparation, college preview days, and other general assistance for college readiness. Students that attend all sessions are eligible for a one-course, last-dollar scholarship pending all tuition is not covered by financial aid.
For the second year, we will offer a Texas Success Initiative Assessment (TSIA) summer bridge for any student who has not been successful on the TSIA or who has concerns about this college placement exam.
Upon completion of the program, students will meet with an advisor to register for Fall 2022. Last year, 75% of the students who participated passed the TSIA.
Applications for this year’s summer cohort will open in April.
| | |
We do not want anyone to not attend college due to finances.
Therefore, students that meet certain qualifications will be able to take their exams free of charge.
| | |
While this is not a new initiative, we do want to invite anyone interested in enrolling this fall or learning more about the college to our Open House events. Each location will host these events on April 12 from 4–7 p.m.
Participants will learn about the college’s academic and workforce programs, financial aid, as well key registration processes. All those who attend, register, and follow us on social are entered to win Justin Bieber concert tickets.
| | |
These new fall initiatives will help the college continue to grow and serve our local communities. In addition, we will also continue to provide the services that have proven to help students succeed such as our food scholarship program, technology assistance, and mental health counseling.
As always, thank you for being a great community partner. If you or someone you know is interested in learning more about these initiatives, please email HN-Info@LoneStar.edu or call 281-260-3500.
Sincerely,
Quentin Wright, Ed.D.
