Dog Workshops Still Going
The dog committee is still hosting workshops on Mondays. Please remember you must attend a minimum of eight classes to be eligible to participate in the dog show. Questions? Reach out!

Fair Board Seeking a Night Watchman
The Clinton County Fair Board is looking to hire a night watchman for the Clinton County Fair. This is a paid position. Anyone interested should contact Mary Stevenson at 563-659-1624 or clintoncofair@iowatelecom.net.

Fair Board Seeking Lil' Miss, Jr. Miss & Fair Queen Contest Applications
Help the Clinton County Fair Board find the next fair royalty! Applications are due to the Fair Office by 4:00 pm on June 15. Find them on the Clinton County Fair website.
 
New Office Hours - 8:30-5:00 pm
As voted by the Extension Council, the Clinton County Extension Office will be open Monday-Friday 8:30-5:00 pm.
 
Who should I email?
Please send your 4-H, Clover Kids, or fair questions to clinton4h@iastate.edu. Both Rebecca and Amanda receive emails sent to the 4-H one so you will get a reply faster. You can also call anytime!

Fairgrounds Clean Up
While all clubs and chapters are encouraged to help clean up the fairgrounds, this year we are requesting help from the following groups:
  • Cal-Wheat FFA Chapter
  • DeWitt Hustlers
  • Orange Future Leaders
Please arrive on the fairgrounds at 9:00 am on Monday, July 25, 2022. Clubs/Chapters will be responsible for picking up leftover trash and other duties as assigned by the Fair Board. 
 
Club Booth Decorating Theme
This year’s theme is “Find Your Spark.” Clubs will be able to set up their booths these times:
  • Monday, July 18 from 9-Noon
  • Tuesday, July 19 from 9-Noon
If these times do not work for you, please contact Rebecca at clinton4h@iastate.edu. We will have new club signs for each booth this year! Leaders, look for a photo in your Leader Link email soon.

Stop by Randy’s Market in DeWitt June 5-11th and round up to support the Clinton County 4-H Foundation. Special thank you to Randy’s for allowing us to do this fundraiser!

Auditorium Hosts Reminder
4-H Clubs are expected by the fair board to watch the auditorium and guard exhibits during designated times. Please review page 10 in your fair book for more information! Clover Kids clubs are partnered with 4-H clubs so younger members can meet and learn from older members!

We continue to add exhibit help sheets to our website. The website is split into department areas that correlate with your fair book. There are even exhibit tip sheets of what the judge is looking for. Check it out today! 

Write-Up Reminder for Conference Judging Day
The sample write-up form has been updated to include more information judges are looking for. It is included in this newsletter and linked on our website. Almost every exhibit needs a write up for 4-H members! Exceptions are horticulture (only an index card needed) and photography (special photo label).

The sample form we created can be used but does not have to be used!
  • Cover Page
  • Picture of the final exhibit
  • Name, county, club, grade, years in 4-H, Class the exhibit is in
  • Report answering the following questions: 
  • What did you plan to learn? (What was your goal?)
  • What steps did you take to accomplish your goal?
  • What were the most important things you learned?
  • Also include pictures of you completing the exhibit and how much it cost you to complete the exhibit.

Fair Activity Spotlight - Bucket of Blooms!
Who: K-3rd grade
When: July 20 at (9-Noon drop off)
Where: Outdoor Learning Classroom (near Auditorium)
Information: Create your own flower bucket and then enter it into the Bucket of Blooms class. It is sponsored by the Clinton County Master Gardeners. 
Steps for Success
  1. Find a 5-gallon bucket and then drill holes in the bottom for drainage. You can put plastic bottles or packing peanuts 3/4 of the way in the bucket to make it lighter.
  2. You can embellish your bucket or leave it plain.
  3. Put your favorite plantings in the bucket and enter it in the Bucket of Blooms Contest.
  4. Buckets will be displayed outside during the Clinton County Fair, please ensure that your entry is suitable for the outdoors. YOU are responsible for watering your bucket!
  5. ALL buckets must be dropped off in the tent near the Outdoor Learning Classroom on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 between 9:00 am and 12:00 pm.
 
Member Packet Pick Up
Save the date to pick up your member packet July 11-15. Inside your packet will be information related to the county fair, your child’s NEW 4-H t-shirt, and reminders. You can pick up the packet at the Extension Office 8:30-5:00 pm Monday-Friday.

Clover Kids Graduation!
Our members who are exiting 3rd grade are invited to the Clover Kids graduation ceremony on Thursday, July 21 at 4:30 pm during the Clinton County Fair. We will celebrate your accomplishments as a Clover Kid and welcome you as a 4-H member this fall!

Iowa State Fair 4-H Livestock Entries Due July 1
2022 Iowa State Fair 4-H Livestock entries are due by July 1st. To enter your livestock for State Fair, go to THIS FairEntry. State Fair premium books (rules) are available online.

2022 Iowa State Fair 4-H Horticulture entries are due by July 1st. To enter your garden crops, herbs, ornamentals, or jumbo vegetables for State Fair, go to: iowastatefair4hlivestock.fairentry.com/ (yes! It is within the livestock fair entry) State Fair premium books (rules) are available online.

Iowa State Fair Reserved Days for Communications Exhibits
Exhibitors who advance to the State Fair for Working Exhibit, Educational Presentation, or Share the Fun have the option to present on the following days. Keep these in mind if you are participating in communications events. Dates are determined based on Extension Regions.

Awardrobe Clothing Event
Who: 9-12th grade 4-H members
The Iowa State Fair 4-H Awardrobe Clothing Event is for 4-H members in 9-12th grade who are interested in showcasing apparel design and production knowledge. Learn more (Note: Youth advance to this contest by participating in our county Clothing and Fashion contest.)

Breathe. Connect. Explore. Iowa THR!VE Retreat
Any 7-12th grade youth & an accompanying adult are invited to step away for a unique weekend retreat from September 23-25 to explore healthy and fun ways to recharge! Cost is $50/person. Registration is available online.
