Congratulations CDO Workforce Disability Resource Coordinator (DRC) Angela Kelly, on your Work Incentives Planning and Utilization for Benefit Practitioners Certification!
Angela says, "I’m thrilled to announce that I have successfully completed the Work Incentives Planning and Utilization for Benefit Practitioners certification through Cornell University. This intensive program involved 19 webinars, covering Social Security benefits, the impact of work on other federal programs, and strategies for becoming an effective benefits practitioner.
"As a certified counselor, I am now ready to help individuals receiving SSI/SSDI navigate the return-to-work process. My role includes facilitating the Ticket to Work (TTW) process with CDO Workforce and providing a range of services such as job search assistance, training, and disability benefits advisement.
"Additionally, I’m actively involved with the Workforce Development Board, Herkimer, Madison and Oneida Counties', New York Systems Change and Inclusive Opportunities Network (NY SCION) grant program. This network focuses on improving employment outcomes through a sustainable and inclusive model that involves businesses and meets workforce demand. My efforts aim to enhance career pathways, benefits advisement, job placement, and overall support for individuals with disabilities.
"If you or someone you know can benefit from this support, please reach out to me. I’m here to help and look forward to working together to achieve successful returns to the workforce!"

Angela says, "I’m honored to share that Nicole Sortino, Disability Resource Coordinator from HMO Workforce Development Board, and I, Angie Kelly from CDO Workforce Development Board, recently had the opportunity to present at Oneonta Job Corps Academy (OJCA).
"During our session, we explored essential topics such as de-escalation techniques, brain development, and the impacts of vicarious trauma and empathy burnout. We also discussed the NY Systems Change and Inclusive Opportunities Network (NY SCION) grant and its role in enhancing employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
"OJCA’s commitment to supporting young adults made it a rewarding experience for us, and we’re grateful for the chance to contribute to their mission through this training.
For a list of additional training topics that I can offer to CDO agencies, please feel free to reach out to me!"

NYS Workforce Survey Results
The New York State Workforce Survey for 2024 has been released. NYS Department of Labor received more than 30,000 responses to the survey from job seekers across the state. Some key takeaways from the survey include:
• A growing need for training and upskilling
• Lack of professional networks, experience, and credentials limit growth
• Artificial Intelligence is seen as both a threat to certain careers and a tool more people would like to be trained in
Some incentives that respondents cited as being most important to them are paid time off, ability to work remotely full-time, and high pay/higher starting pay. Meanwhile, age discrimination, lack of a professional network, and lack of the right degree, certificate, or credential were cited as the greatest barriers to employment.
These results will help to shape future policies to ensure that today's workforce has the tools, training, and experience to get the job they want and earn a wage they deserve.
