A message from Pastor Will Malambri
|
|
19 years ago today Bishop J. Lawrence McCleskey placed his hands on my head and ordained me as an elder in the United Methodist Church. He did it after I had spent years in study and preparation, including 3 years of service as an associate pastor. The United Methodist Church does not take the rights and responsibilities of ordained ministry lightly, but you know that.
You know that because Belin Memorial UMC has been the beneficiary over the years of clergy who, at various stages in their ministry careers, with a variety of gifts and experience, have led this congregation well. Whenever it was that you became part of the Belin Church family, you were received by a pastor or pastors who were very faithfully and ably serving God and this church.
One of the benefits of our connection in the South Carolina United Methodist Annual Conference is that the Board of Ordained Ministry works with local churches, district committees, and seminaries to identify, prepare, and evaluate clergy for the practice of ministry. Another is that the Bishop and District Superintendents prayerfully work to match clergy and churches for effective ministry relationships. None of it is perfect, but Belin members can attest that it usually works very well.
This Sunday our congregation can celebrate that, once again, this process is working well, as Pastor J.T. Brown will be honored with a 4 PM reception at Central UMC in Florence, then ordained at the opening worship service of the 2023 Annual Conference at the Florence Center (7 PM). You are invited to attend both. The 4 PM reception is only available to you in-person, but the 7 PM ordination service can be enjoyed in-person or online.
In fact, much of the 2023 South Carolina Annual Conference is available to you online (a link will be available on www.umcsc.org). The Conference is meeting June 4-7 and Belin is represented by 12 lay members and the 3 appointed pastors. Please pray for the entire event and all who will be part of it. These are pivotal days in the life of the United Methodist Church. May the Holy Spirit move among us that we can contribute to people beginning and growing as disciples of Jesus Christ so that this world will be transformed more into how God would have it be.
And, may Pastor J.T. and all who are commissioned and ordained be honored well for their effort and commitment. We are blessed by the gifts God has given J.T. and by his devotion to share those as a faithful pastor among us. He’s worked hard, done well, and will continue to lead and serve well for many years to come.
Grateful to serve alongside you, Pastor J.T., and Pastor Isaac,

Friday Unity Prayer
Follow along in prayer with us every Friday at noon.
Almighty God, by your Son Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit you gave to your apostles many excellent gifts. Give your grace to all who have been called to representative ministry, that they may with diligence and faithfulness fulfill their various ministries. Grant that we your people may follow where you lead, perfect our ministries, and live in joyful obedience to your will; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Pastor J. T. Brown's Ordination
Sunday, June 11, 10 AM
|
You are invited to celebrate with Pastor J.T. at 10 AM, on Sunday, June 11, outside under the oaks in front of the Belin church office. The reception will be moved inside the Family Life Center if inclement weather occurs. Plan to be part of this meaningful time together in J.T. and Belin Memorial UMC’s life.
We would love for everyone to take the time to write a note encouraging J.T. as he starts the next step in his ministry as an ordained minister. Baskets will be available in the church office and in room 2 in the Family Life Center for those that want to leave a note, card, or other gifts. If you have young children we encourage you to talk to them about what this means for J.T. and have them make a card or draw him a picture. (make sure they sign their work).
Most importantly, please keep J.T. in your prayers. This is an exciting and meaningful time in his life and ministry.

Prayers and Concerns
Almighty God, shield of the oppressed, hear us as we pray for the friendless and the lonely, the tempted and the unbelieving. Be merciful to those who suffer, in body and mind, to those who are in danger or distress, and who have suffered loss. Let your love surround the infirm and the aged. Be especially near to those who are passing through the valley of death. May they find eternal rest, and light at evening time.
Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
