A Message from the Principal
March 21, 2022
Parents and Guardians,

This Wednesday, March 23rd our 11th graders will be taking the SAT. The test was funded through the legislature and will be given at no cost to you or your student. All testing will take place at LHS and students should arrive no later than 8:45. Class assignments will be posted in the Commons and outside the Library when they arrive so they know where to report. Students who are testing should also bring a pencil and their own calculator. Classes for 9th, 10th, and 12th graders will be displaced for testing but students should report to campus at their regular time.

Tickets for this year’s Junior/Senior Prom remain on sale through next week. This year’s event will take place at Southfork Ranch on Saturday, April 2nd from 8:00-11:00 p.m. More details about the event can be found below.

Attendance continues to be a focus for our campus and our district. Please help your student’s learning and our district funding by ensuring they are at school as often as possible.

Below you can find more information regarding upcoming events. Please take a few minutes to review them so you have the latest information. Have a great week!

Sincerely,

Chris Mayfield
Principal
Lovejoy High School

Inclement Weather Update
Following the bad weather that closed schools on February 3 & 4, the district added minutes to the K-8 school day to make up one of those days and will make up the other day on April 18. Lovejoy High School will make up one day on April 18 but did not need to add minutes to their school day because they had additional minutes accumulated due to their longer school days.

After the February 24 bad weather that closed all campuses, Lovejoy High School is currently 105 minutes short of the 75,600 required instructional minutes by the State. The State requires campuses to make two adjustments to their calendar before applying for a bad weather day waiver. Since Lovejoy High School has not added minutes to the calendar to make up for these lost minutes, we are not eligible to apply for the bad weather waiver day for LHS. Therefore, we need to add additional minutes to the Lovejoy High School calendar. Lovejoy High School will add 35 minutes to the end of the early release days on May 24, 25, and 26th. Instead of dismissing at 1:00 PM, dismissal will be at 1:35 PM.
