Baskets

It is an activity that most of us do at least once a week and sometimes the times call for an extra trip or so.The grocery store. For some reason this past week I saw things from a different perspective.  It was not just the shoppers but it was the different choices they had made in their carriers.  Some had the big basket, some the smaller ones, some the hand baskets while others just had a hand full of a couple of items. Each carrier was chosen based on their needs for that particular run.

It occurred to me that each awakening day that each of us have such different needs that are based on: our responsibilities, trials that are before us, health issues, financial status, storms that are brewing or blowing through our hearts, relationship issues, parenting kids, taking care of parents etc. etc. We measure our quest for help based on what our situation is.

We are like a shopper who chooses a purposed carrier for the task at hand, for we too are offered the needed support for our daily struggles and God is always there to help us carry our needs.  Sometimes, for instance my sweet friend, who years ago was diagnosed with MS and has faithfully journeyed day by day, has now been diagnosed with cancer.  She needs a giant basket of support vs someone who seemingly, for this day, can handle a handful of smaller events. God remains faithful in any situation, the big ones and the small ones but so often we need a reminder that nothing is too small or too big for God. It is his true desire, and out of his loving character that we count on him and depend on him to support us and help us conquer the doubts, unknowns, uncertainties, and fears that creep up on us. He is the only security that we have that is constant, concerned, and committed to loving us and being a trusted, everlasting carrier of our hearts, and a trusted friend.

Just as the baskets at the grocery store are readily available, so is the help and support that God is unconditionally willing to share with each of us.  He knows our needs way before we even recognize them.  And what he offers are blessings of the heart: trust, love, patience, oversight, healing, wisdom …but for those blessing to be effective, we need to recognize God and his presence, and faithfully hang tight to the reality that God knows what he is doing and his timing is always perfect according to his will.

Philippians 4:19  And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.

God is in control of all things and circumstances that come before us, and I truly believe the scriptures that tell us he will ultimately allow good things to come from them.  Romans 8:28  And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Today, just consider what is in your basket….what needs do you have, what fears are you facing, what situations are before you that seem overwhelming, what prayers have you raised up to the Lord?  God is our victorious conquer who has sent his son Jesus to be our advocate and supplier for all our needs. Our prayers are cherished, and will be answered by God but not always the way that we would like, but always the way he has envisioned them to be.

Three elements of a grocery store run are: the shopper, the supplies and the source.   We are the shopper in God’s kingdom, His supplies are abundant; love, joy peace, comfort, wisdom forgiveness, joy etc. His storehouse of blessings is overflowing, and we re given the privilege to choose which ones to embrace to overcome the contents we have in our heart baskets based on what our needs are for this day….  And God, our supplier never runs out of his glorious blessings.

May you shop God’s kingdom with confidence, and may God be glorified by our faith, thanksgiving and praise for his many wonderful deeds.  For all we have to have is a mustard seed of faith and God will take care of the rest. But we must remember often to not only acknowledge him but thank and praise him. Blessed are we who know God and love him.

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.John 16:33

“For I am the LORD, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.”Isaiah 41:13

Praise God wherever you are and whatever situation He has allowed you to be in . . . His glory will shine through!
