A Springtime Message from Narragansett Prevention Partnership
Dear Parents/Guardians:

Ahhhh….spring! Who doesn’t love the bits of warm sunshine, daffodils swaying in the breeze, birds twittering from the trees all day and spring peepers chirping from the marshy shadows at night? Along with all of these happy signs of spring comes the fun of kids playing outside and pre-teens and teens looking for more independence. Middle schoolers may be joining school sports for the first time and start seeking unsupervised outings with their friends like a bike ride farther from the neighborhood, a trip on the bike path, or a walk at the Pier or in Wakefield. High schoolers have even bigger, bolder plans in mind that include later curfews or a wider radius for driving. So ‘Tis the Season for parents to set expectations and limits to help keep kids safe while extending the boundaries of their independence. READ MORE
An Important Reminder from our School Nurses

Please be advised that unused medication must be picked up by the last day of school or it will be discarded.

June 22, 2022 is the last day of school. According to Narragansett School System policy, any unused medication must be picked up by a parent or guardian before the last day of school. Please be reminded that medication cannot be stored in the school building over the summer and it cannot be sent home with your child. Therefore, please make arrangements to come to school to retrieve your child’s unused medication. Medication that is not picked up by the last day of school will be disposed of according to Narragansett School System policy.

In anticipation that your child might be taking medication in the upcoming school year, please be sure to have a current Narragansett School System Medication Authorization Form on file with the school nurse. If your child will continue to take medication during school hours next school year, a new physician’s order must be on file with the nurse and all medicine must be in a pharmacy labeled container.
Please feel free to contact the school nurse with any questions or concerns you may have and thank you for your cooperation and attention to this matter.

REMINDER: Keeping Students Safe Online

We are always working towards keeping our students safe online and recent legislation has made this a requirement for schools. This means we want to ensure that no company is collecting, using or selling any of our student identifying information (SII). So, we've teamed up with the Rhode Island Student Privacy Consortium to help us use apps and sites that agree to the National Data Privacy Agreement (NDPA).

For more information on this and the actions required, please click below.

If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to our Technology Coach, Vanessa Miller

April Fools' Day Surprise for our Dedicated NES Custodians!

NES turned April Fools' Day into a fun appreciation of our day custodians: Sam and Siobhan.

They both work hard to keep our schools clean and safe throughout the year and our school greatly appreciates their dedication!

To celebrate them, they planed an April Fools' surprise that kept them guessing. Classrooms and staff would call for their services throughout the day and when they arrived to assist, the students and staff instead had cards, flowers, chocolates and gifts of appreciation.

What a wonderful way to celebrate our Essential Workers and have so much fun!
NES Celebrates SEL Day with RIDE

On Friday, March 11th, the Rhode Island Department of Education - RIDE and Commissioner Infante-Green visited our Elementary School to officially celebrate #SELDay! (Social Emotional Learning)

After an engaging session with students during a class and meeting with educators and Superintendent Dr. Peter Cummings, the Commissioner presented the school with a proclamation from Governor McKee in honor of Social Emotional Learning day.

This also marked March 11th as #socialemotionallearning Day in Rhode Island!
A big thank you to Karen Festa, Patty Carosotto, and Principal Lisa Wilson for hosting this event and for sharing our dedication to students on a statewide level.
Notes from the SEL Team!

Thank you to the NES PTO for the generous classroom book donation for our whole school to enjoy a read aloud of “The Cool Bean” on SEL Day.

Also, a special shout-out to the NES Health & Wellness Team (Principal Wilson, Anthony Hassell, Michelle Haskell, Karen Festa & Jane Flood) for their planning and collaboration with SEL Day. Their hard work and dedication to our school family does not go unnoticed.

Thank you for all you do!

World Language Honor Society Teams Up to Make a Difference

On March 5th, the Narragansett High School World Languages Honor Society (WLHS) held and participated in a beach clean-up at Narragansett Town Beach.

This was our first service project for the 2021-2022 school year, and it was very much a success!

There were two sessions held, one at 9am, and the other at 12pm. Each session had about 15 members participating in the clean-up for two hours, respectively. This clean-up wouldn’t have been possible without the generous donations of garbage bags and gloves from Rob Ferraro at Jerry’s Hardware.

Our WLHS team is glad to have been able to give back and serve our community, and are more than excited to continue completing our service projects during the year.
