Many Members and patients have become aware of a concerning respiratory illness surpassing typical kennel cough severity. Originating in Oregon, the disease is spreading, with cases reported in states like Colorado, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. Symptoms include coughing, sneezing, potential pneumonia, and more. Vigilance is crucial as investigations continue to understand the illness's nature, spread, and treatment options.

PVMA Member and Chief Veterinary Officer of Heart + Paw, George Melillo, VMD adapted an AVMA press release (linked below) with helpful guidelines for veterinarians to share with pet owners. Click the "read more" button below for this fact sheet and a technical bulletin with general information, originally published by Zoetis in 2017.

Maternity and Newborn Dairy Calf Care Management

December 7, 2023

12:00 - 1:00 pm EST

Virtual - Gustavo M. Schuenemann, DVM, MS, PhD

Join the Ohio State University Extension virtually for a dairy cattle webinar to address maternity and newbord dairy calf care management. The webinar will be presented in English on Thursday, December 7 or in Spanish on Friday, December 8. Both webinars start at 12:00 pm.

Calving is a natural process and an essential requirement in which cows initiate lactation and provide the future replacements of the herd. This webinar will provide practical solutions to promote positive animal-people interactions, enhance the natural “milk let-down” process to harvest quality colostrum, neonatal care practices, and effective tools to manage the maternity.

Calling all Veterinary Technicians/Nurses!

We want to hear your voice! Share your thoughts with us and be entered to win a $50 gift card!

VECCS created a Taskforce with the directive to explore the current state of veterinary technician/nurse (VT/N) utilization, with the following goals in mind:

·   Elucidate reasons contributing to the VT/N shortage

·   Define barriers to optimal utilization/satisfaction

·   Propose strategies to improve VT/N utilization to advance the reach, function, and wellbeing of the entire vet healthcare team

To meet these goals, the Taskforce created an anonymous, online survey. If you are a veterinary technician/nurse, please share your opinions and experiences by completing this short (~15 minute) survey. Please feel free to share this survey link with other VT/Ns.

Take Survey

All those who complete the survey have the opportunity to enter a raffle for a $50.00 Amazon gift card!!

All responses are anonymous. Please email Lori Kogan (lori.kogan@colostate.edu) with any questions.
