Watch for work zones as construction season starts!

Work Zones

The holiday weekend is often known as the informal start of summer. That also means construction season will soon be in full swing. As construction crews take to the roads, it’s important to remember to drive safely in work zones.

Don’t daydream about summer vacation while behind the wheel. Orange signs along the roadway are your clue to focus and slow down. Signs, cones, barrels and flaggers may be present to help you get through safely.

Watch out for workers and look for posted speed limits. Be ready for sudden stops, and don’t get frustrated by traffic delays. In 2020, 20% of all fatal work zone crashes involved rear-end collisions. Speed was a contributing factor in over 37%.

This Memorial Day weekend, there may be fewer work zones to worry about if you’re driving on Oregon roads. The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) will stop most regularly scheduled road work starting at noon today (Friday) through Tuesday afternoon.
