Irrigation at Hyland Hills Park and Recreation District
At Hyland Hills, we do our best to be good stewards of the community’s water resources. Because of that commitment, water conservation and reductions in our irrigation schedules are now, and will likely continue to be necessary. What this means to you is that you may notice some areas of our District parks will not appear as green as we are accustomed.
Hyland Hills irrigates the Greg Mastriona Golf Courses, Carroll Butts Park, Clear Creek Valley Park, Bell Roth Park, Sherrelwood Park and Hidden Lake Park solely with non- potable water. This water is supplied by the Farmers Highline Canal and Reservoir Company, the Kershaw Ditch Company and from Hidden Lake irrigation rights. Laramie Fox Hills wells are used to augment the supply.
No treated City potable water is used to irrigate these parks.
Use of non-potable ditch and lake water results in significant savings to the District (and it’s Residents) for the cost of turf irrigation.
As you may know, Colorado and the West are in the midst of a historic drought. Flows in Clear Creek are very low, and this directly affects how much water is available for irrigation. You may notice that we are not irrigating as much or as often as we would all like to.
Our goal is always to keep the parks looking as great as possible. To reach that goal we are constantly seeking to expand our supply of irrigation water while using the water we do have available to us more efficiently.
