Public Safety Special Alert

Upcoming Public Safety Events

Dear Neighbors,

By now I am sure you've heard about the horrifying shooting and robbery at Wayne and Webster early Friday morning, just outside the 43rd Ward.

At around 3 a.m., a man was walking East down Webster towards Wayne Street when two criminals exited a white sedan and confronted him. They demanded his phone, and in the following moments, one of the criminals shot the victim several times.

The victim's identity is unknown and he is currently undergoing treatment at Advocate Illinois Masonic Hospital.

This heinous crime may be connected to others.

On Wednesday, a car was hijacked in the 2900 block of Clark Street. That car was recovered earlier today, and is being investigated for its potential links to other robberies committed Wednesday, Thursday and early Friday morning, including a robbery in Lakeview, and two in our ward - one on Racine on Thursday and one on Fullerton early this morning, as well as the tragic shooting.

At this time, the police cannot confirm that these robberies are connected, but Area 03 Detectives are working diligently to pursue leads and work in partnership with other law enforcement agencies.

I ask you to keep the victims of these crimes in your hearts.

We thank every citizen for their help in this investigation. Working together, we will fight this scourge in our community.

In the coming days, neighborhood groups and the Chicago Police are hosting several events centered on public safety, including:
