The Stoney Hill Cemetery Restoration Project

"On June 25, 1999, the Hills cemetery, a six-and-one half-acre site plus the adjoining church foundation, received admittance to the National Register of Historic Sites as Stoney Hill Cemetery. The Hills burial ground was the final resting spot for more than 200 Hills residents including 13 veterans of the Civil War.

The Stoney Hill Cemetery Restoration Project began in 2016 to restore and clean up the cemetery while also educating students on the true meaning of Memorial Day. It has become a tradition that during the week prior to Memorial Day, teacher Eliseo Lugo III's Social Studies class pays tribute to those buried at Stoney Hill Cemetery by cleaning the grounds and remembering the fallen by placing American flags at the headstones of the veterans.
