What do you think of when you think about your teeth? If we are being honest, they are probably close to the last thing we think of on any regular basis. Some know how important they are, and that they are a significant part of our overall health. Maybe we smile in the mirror and wish they were straighter or whiter, but for most, thinking about what we would do without them is not on the radar. It wasn’t on the radar for one of our patients at Marian Dental either.

Evon was familiar with the name Marian, as she was a patient of Marian Medical Clinic before it closed in 2015. She was thrilled when she learned her records had been transferred to Marian Dental Clinic where a history of her health was available when she came to see Dr. Nathan for a routine dental exam. Her exam went well, but Dr. Nathan spied a tooth that needed a partial extraction, meaning the root could remain. Unfortunately, Evon’s dental insurance referred her to a 3rd party agency for anything over routine preventative care (extractions, dentures, crowns, as examples). Dr. Nathan expected Evon to return to Marian soon to continue her routine dental care. Little did he know she’d face a series of dental mishaps that would last over a year and bring her pain and tears.
First, Evon’s simple extraction of one tooth by the 3rd party agency went horribly wrong. They mistakenly extracted all of them. Her entire upper palate was deprived of teeth, and needed a full set of dentures. Second, after fitting her for the dentures, they did not fit. They were too thick, they made her gag and in the space of 4 months she endured a heartbreaking 24 visits to the same agency who could not seem to get them right.

After over a year of living with no upper teeth, unable to wear the dentures the agency had made for her, Evon went back to see Dr. Nathan at Marian Dental. Dr. Nathan was shocked to see that she had not only lost all of her upper teeth, but that she had lost the ridge of her gum as well. “I knew he felt bad, his face showed his shock and he put his hands over his eyes and shook his head no.” He could not understand why they had removed a whole row of healthy teeth.
Getting right to work, Dr. Nathan was able to do in 3 visits, what others failed in 24. He fitted her with a pair of dentures that fit her perfectly.

“He fixed everything! I am a whole person again…I can smile, I can laugh and look at myself in the mirror again.”

Evon calls it a miracle, but she knows it is just expert dental care. “That Dr. Nathan, he is SO special.”

Thank you Dr. Nathan, for caring so much…and to Evon, I pray you continue to smile.
