Sermon by Rebecca Woodland

Dr. Sunyong Hwang
Worship Musician
We are no longer taking temperatures, but still asking folks to sign in and everyone who attends will need to wear a mask. Congregational singing during the worship service has resumed. Last week we had a pop-up choir to help with the hymn(s). Interested folks are invited to join in.   Please arrive by 9:30 to warm up and go through the hymn. We will sing from the front steps accompanied by Dr. Sunyong Hwang, Singers masks are available for all who want to sing with the group.  All guidelines will be posted in the sanctuary and should be reviewed before being seated.

Rebecca Woodland is speaking this Sunday and next Sunday. In addition, next Sunday, May 29th we will celebrate in a joint service with the Honolulu Marshallese United Church of Christ. They have been sharing the CUW sanctuary for their Sunday worship services which begin at 2:30pm each Sunday.

The Kaimalino Serenaders will be participating in worship this week and will return to a regular schedule of sharing two Hawaiian hymns during the service once a month.

Supplication for Peace, Rescue, and Justice

This week, the Faith Action Communications Committee shares with you, a space for contemplation and prayer amidst the brokenness and turmoil we have seen in our world this week. We offer this supplication from Laudato Si.

            Fill Us with Your Peace

Fill us with your peace that we may live
As brothers and as sisters, harming no one.

Empower us to rescue
The abandoned and forgotten,
Precious in your eyes, God of the poor.

Touch those whose hearts only look for gain,
Careless of the poor and of our planet.

Teach us to discover
How deeply we’re united
As we journey towards your light together.

Thank you for your presence every day.
Give us courage in our daily struggle.

May we work for justice.
May we work for love.
May we all be instruments of peace.

- --from Piloting Faith: Lyrics adapted from Pope Francis’ prayer, Laudato Si)

Centering Prayer
All are welcome to join the Centering Prayer groups by Zoom.

Focus on Prayer
The Mind*Body*Spirit movement wants to invite us all to continue focusing our hearts in prayer for the Ukraine this week. Pray also for the many surrounding countries that are reaching out to help. Perhaps we can pray too for leaders in all countries to be open to the power of LOVE. All things are possible to God.
We will have written prayers available at the in-person service to stimulate and encourage our spirits as we prayer.

Silence is God’s first language, everything else is a poor translation.
So, to hear God in God’s language one has to enter into silence too. (Thomas Keating)
Walking Moai
Moai is a concept from Okinawa, Japan, that roughly translates to “coming together for a common purpose”. Join a CUC Moai walking group―it’s a great way to expand your social network while also getting in some physical activity.
