Sermon:
Something Special This Sunday!
| | |
Happy Thursday Church!
We hope your mid-week is looking really good!
Many thanks to Rev.John Whitacre for preaching "The Quest" last Sunday. Your gentle and loving reminder that God's grace resides within each of us touched our hearts.
We ask you to continue to keep Pastor Greg, Freddie and their family in your prayers. While we miss them, we know this time of treatment completion,(radiation treatment has officially been completed) and the beginning of recovery and healing is what is most important. We look forward to welcoming them back soon.
Please direct any prayer requests to the church office, Office1@ccpucc.org. Vicki Holland will receive those requests and communicate with you. If you have Pastoral care needs, please let us know using Office1@ccpucc.org, or call the church office at 858-748-3304.
We will continue to worship as always at 9:15 Sunday morning, welcoming some new faces, and some familiar, as we continue to glorify God, and be grateful for all the gifts and love we have been given.

In 7 words for worship (pt. 4)
In the Hebrew language there a number of words that are often translated as worship. I thought maybe we’d look at each of these over the next month or two. So far we’ve looked at “hallel” where we get the word “hallelujah.” and “yadah” lifting one’s hands" and “towdah” to give thanks This week our word is “Shabach.” SHABACH means to shout, to address in a loud tone, to command or to triumph. We aren’t very used to shouting in church (well, the church I grew up shouted a lot, but I’m guessing not your church). I see it as part of making a joyful noise and I think of how we shout for favorite singers or sports players and how this is a kind of praise for how much we like or appreciate them. Can we give the same kind of praise to God by giving a shout every now and then? I think so, some of the songs we sing call us to shout with “ohs” or other sounds. Have freedom to share your love for God and excitement for what God is doing in our church and in your life with a shout every now and then.
Psalm 47:1 O clap your hands, all peoples; shout (shabach) to God with the voice of joy (or triumph).
Psalm 145:4 One generation shall praise (shabach) your works to another and declare your mighty acts.
Isaiah 12:6 Cry aloud and shout (shabach) for joy, O inhabitant of Zion, for great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel.

Books & More
We will be reading Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus starting on Tuesday, August 27.
This novel is laugh-out-loud funny, shrewdly observant, and studded with a dazzling cast of supporting characters, Lessons in Chemistry is as original and vibrant as its protagonist-Meet Elizabeth Zott: “a gifted research chemist, absurdly self-assured and immune to social convention” and is not your average woman. In fact, she would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman.
#1 GLOBAL BESTSELLER AND A BEST BOOK OF THE YEAR: The New York Times, Washington Post, NPR, Oprah Daily, Entertainment Weekly, and Newsweek.
Books and More meets every Tuesday at 10:00am in the Fireside Room.
All are welcome to join us.
