Celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month
May is Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, a time to pause and reflect on the AAPI experience in the U.S., past and present, and to recognize the contributions the AAPI community has made to Boulder County. Especially after the past several years and the huge increase in anti-Asian sentiment and hate crimes, it is important that we celebrate the rich history and contributions of all the different cultures encompassed by the many Asian American and Pacific Islander identities.

Take a moment to learn more about what that collective identity means today, and some local Colorado history of Asian American and Pacific Islanders:

Incredible April STEM E3 Jam Session at Google
We were thrilled to partner with Google Boulder for our April STEM E3 Jam Session!

Thirty-nine students came together at Google for a hands-on coding activity, a Q&A session with a panel of incredible women in STEM professions at Google, and a tour of the Google campus. Thank you to everyone who participated in the event!

You can view more photos from the day in our Facebook photo album here.
Celebrating 10 Years of Reading to End Racism
This year we're celebrating 10 years of Reading to End Racism as a YWCA Boulder County program. Reading to End Racism was originally founded by a group of visionary community volunteers in the 1990s in partnership with Boulder Valley School District. Last year we honored one of those founded members, the late Jean Gore, and are grateful to the many other long-time community volunteers who are still involved in the program.

A huge thank you to all our Reading to End Racism volunteers and community partners who make this program possible!

"National Day of Action: One Year Without Roe" Community Gathering and Rally
Saturday, June 24
10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
Boulder Band Shell (1212 Canyon Blvd., Boulder)

Join us on Saturday, June 24 for YWCA's "National Day of Action: One Year Without Roe" Community Gathering and Rally to be inspired and learn more about how to take action as we continue the fight for access to reproductive health care. YWCA Boulder County and the Women's Collaborative of Boulder County will hold a rally in honor of the one-year anniversary of the overturning of Roe v. Wade.

"We will come together in solidarity in Boulder on June 24 to demonstrate for our shared beliefs in reproductive and fundamental rights for us all,” said Debbie Pope, CEO, YWCA Boulder County. “Roe v. Wade advocacy is not just about healthcare, it’s a racial justice issue as well, because the women who are being most impacted by these decisions are predominantly women of color.”

Recapping YWCA's Racial Justice Challenge
The YWCA's Racial Justice Challenge wrapped up on Monday, May 15 after four weeks of incredible daily educational content about this year's themes: Disability, Housing, Mental Health and Music.

The YWCA Racial Justice Challenge is designed to create dedicated time and space to build more effective social justice habits, particularly those dealing with issues of race, power, privilege, and leadership. Continue your own personal learning journey and build your own tools for dealing with issues of race, power, privilege, and leadership. Previously known as the Stand Against Racism Challenge or 21-Day Racial Equity and Social Justice Challenge, the YWCA Racial Justice Challenge was developed by YWCA Greater Cleveland in 2019 and adopted by YWCA USA as a national initiative last year.
