Submit a Presentation Proposal: Summit on Community-Engaged Learning and Scholarship

The annual KU Summit on Community-Engaged Learning and Scholarship is hosted by the Center for Service Learning in collaboration with various campus partners. 


The 2024 Summit will be held virtually on January 9, 2024.


We are currently accepting presentation proposals for the Summit!


Interested in presenting? Submit a proposal in our CELS 2024 Presentation Interest Form by December 1.


Have students with interest in presenting? Encourage them to submit proposals for our Service Showcase and Celebration by December 8!

CSL Ambassador Program

The CSL Ambassador Program connects faculty, staff, students, and community partners who are interested in promoting service-learning and civic engagement.


Ambassadors serve as liaisons to their department, unit, organization, and network to champion the integration of community and civic engagement.

Share Community-Engaged Work Through the Engaged KU Story Map

The Engaged KU Story Map highlights stories that exemplify the university’s community engagement across projects in research and scholarship, learning, and civic participation. This initiative spotlights the diverse ways that KU departments, units, and multidisciplinary initiatives are manifesting their commitment to community engagement.


To include a story of community-engaged efforts, submit a project for the Engaged KU Story Map.

Certificate in Service Learning

The Certificate in Service Learning recognizes undergraduate students' experiences in utilizing classroom skills to meet community-identified needs through service and civic action.


Once a student has earned the certificate, it is acknowledged on their official academic transcript.

Community Service Capacity Awards

Students who may experience barriers or hardships in supporting community engagement and service activities may apply for a Community Service Support Award through the Center for Service Learning.


The CSCA is a need-based service award that may support an award of $300 or less based on the amount requested to address the level of need presented in the application.


Encourage your students to learn more about and apply for a Community Service Capacity Award.

Excellence in Service Learning and Civic Engagement: CSL Award Nominations Welcomed!

The CSL's annual awards recognize faculty, staff, students, and community partners who have demonstrated commitment to service learning, community engagement, and/or civic engagement through their work at/with KU.


New this year: award recipients will be recognized at our annual Summit on Community-Engaged Learning and Scholarship in January.


Know someone deserving of being recognized (even if it's you)? Nominate someone for a 2024 CSL Award by December 8!

Service Learning and Social Awareness Course Designation

If your course incorporates community engagement, volunteer, or service components, it may qualify for our Service Learning Course Designation! If your course helps students deepen their understanding about social issues, it may qualify for our Social Awareness Course Designation.


Designated courses count towards the Certificate in Service Learning.

Service Learning Instructional Mini-Grants

Mini-grants encourage and support faculty in engaging students with the broader community through service-learning, by integrating community-based experiences and learning as part of the course curriculum.


Faculty of all career tracks (full and part time) can apply for $500-$1,000 per course section.


Mini-Grant applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
