Support a child in need - Angel Tree open now

More than 1,600 students are on this year’s Virtual Angel Tree, and they need our community’s support! The Angel Tree allows community members to select an anonymous child to support this holiday season to ensure they have gifts.

Each year, Northwest ISD opens its Virtual Angel Tree to ensure every child has gifts during the holiday season. Community members can visit angeltree.nisdtx.org to select a student – or multiple students – to provide gifts. A value of $150 in gifts for each angel is suggested. For more information, read here for an explanation about how the Angel Tree works.

Carter Elementary student gets ultimate surprise

When Carter Elementary's fifth-grade classes donated the most candy for the school's Trunk-or-Treat, they earned the opportunity to watch Principal John Booles get pied in the face by the Carter coyote.

Fifth-grade student Sadler got an even better surprise when the coyote removed his mask and her dad, Army Officer Uriah Steffenhagen, was inside.

Welcome home Officer Steffenhagen, and thank you to the Steffenhagen family for your service!

NISD earns grants for military connectedness

Northwest ISD is proud to announce it has earned grants from the National Math & Science Initiative and Department of Defense STEM Education & Outreach Office for its student population’s military connections.

The NMSI has already begun providing additional training to more than 30 Northwest ISD teachers and administrators, and costs for AP tests will be reduced for students. Students in AP STEM courses will also be eligible for scholarships through the program.

Because Northwest ISD’s high schools have a student population that maintains a roughly 10% connection to the United States military branches in active duty, guard or reserve roles, the high schools will see additional benefits to their AP and honors classes in STEM fields.

High School Showcase set for Tuesday

Northwest ISD invites families interested in learning more about its high schools to the district’s annual High School Showcase on Tuesday, November 14.

Each district high school – Byron Nelson, Eaton, Northwest and Steele Early College – will host its showcase in the evening, when students can learn about academic courses and extracurricular activities. Each showcase will last from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Though the event is primarily aimed at freshmen, any current Northwest ISD student or guardian is also welcome to attend.

In addition to general information about campus programs and opportunities, school faculty will provide students and families with information for course selection for the coming academic year. Current students involved in academies, extracurricular programs and other unique services will be on hand to share their experiences.

At Carl Day, a day honoring the late Carl Schluter, students at Schluter Elementary had the opportunity to participate in learning experiences based on the passions and interests of Mr. Schluter, including a petting zoo, Farmer Mark’s Hayride, fishing, archery, physics, basketball and so much more!

Help restock immediate needs in the NEF Resource Store and Library

The Northwest ISD Education Foundation’s resource store and library provides support to NISD teachers and students through free resources and educational materials. NISD teachers can “shop” for school and classroom supplies, snack packs, books and more. All items are free to district educators! Since August 9, NEF has welcomed more than 500 in-person shoppers from across the district, and because of overwhelming needs, we are asking for your help!

You can help by donating from the store’s online wishlist. Immediate needs include snacks, elementary books, primary composition notebooks and treasure kit/prize items. You can also help by making a tax-deductible donation or volunteering in the store! Volunteers help sticker and prep inventory, and restock shelves.
