A MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
May 15th, 2023

Dear Colleague,

It was wonderful to see so many of you in person at our conference in Washington, DC last month. It had been four long years since we last met beyond our Zoom calls and the warmth and joy so many felt seeing their colleagues was palpable. Thank you so much to everyone who was able to attend CUGH2023, this could not have been a success without you. For the thousands of individuals from over 100 nations who could not be in Washington, DC, but participated in our week of virtual satellite sessions, thank you. Deep gratitude also goes to the members of our planning committees, judges, sponsors, volunteers, Board of Directors, and my team in our office.

The feedback we have received so far has been superb. One resounding message is that we were able to connect the enormously important work in academia and related organizations across sectors to address real-world challenges. We will continue to strive to bridge gaps in knowledge produced, human resources, and the implementation of evidence-based solutions that can address the threats to human well-being and the sustainability of our fragile planet.

There is much in this newsletter that can be useful to anyone working in global health. Please be so kind as to share it widely.

Best wishes,

Keith Martin, MD, PC
Executive Director

The Minderoo-Monaco Commission Report on Plastics and Human Health, led by CUGH Board member, Dr. Phil Landrigan, Director of the Global Public Health Program at Boston College, was just published in the Annals of Global Health. This report addresses an important and neglected global threat to the health of people and that of our planet. Please see, use, and share this important report which can be found here.

Implementing what we know can be done across the life cycle of plastic to reduce the amount of plastic in our environment is critically important to reducing the impact of this substance on our health and that of the global biosphere.

This 2-hour webinar focuses on how to get your application noticed, the federal recruitment process, resume writing, interviewing, and navigating the negotiation and offer.
