Fire Prevention Week 

This week is National Fire Prevention Week, which is a great time to take steps to prepare your home and your family for the potential for deadly fire.


What can you do now? Change the batteries and test your fire detectors, choose an outside meeting place that your family can plan on, and plan escape routes out of the house so that everyone knows the best ways to exit. Fire can be deadly, but being prepared can saves lives.

Homeownership Workshop

A home buying workshop will be offered from 6-7:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 20 at the Parkway Manor Community Room, and is free and open to the public. The workshop is designed to provide information about the home-buying experience and what to expect in that process. Pre-registration is required. Learn more on the BCAAR website.

Election Inspectors Needed

Election Inspectors may still be needed in Calhoun County. An election inspector is hired by the local city or township Election Commission, are paid positions, and assists with conducting elections. Visit the Calhoun County Elections website to apply as an Elections Inspector and learn what the training entails.

Technology Improvements for Dispatch

After a millage was approved by voters this year, Dispatch has moved forward with its plan to overhaul the network solution and radios for emergency agencies. On Sept. 27, it signed a contract with Motorola that includes the construction of four new towers, 10 communication channels, 413 portable radios, 400 pagers, and more.

Sign Up for the Emergency

Notification System

Calhoun County Emergency Management and Dispatch has moved to Rave Alert powered by Smart 911 as the method for notifying residents when there is an emergency. Sign up for these notifications at calhouncountymi.gov/rave or text CALHOUN to 67283.

Board of Commissioners Meetings Online

Calhoun County Government is using CivicClerk as its agenda software for Board of Commissioners Meetings. Agendas, live streams and recordings of the meetings, and minutes are all published to this page. Agendas and minutes for past meetings are also archived in this software.
