Letter from the Board of Trustees Chair
Sam E. (NJ) was elected to the Board of Trustees (BOT) by the BOT and Christina M. (new Mom for the second time with baby Luke) has returned to the BOT from her maternity leave so the BOT is now a full nine-member Board.

The LifeSaver Program has raised over $90,000 from member, group and intergroup contributions since it began back in April 2020, helping the Fellowship realize in excess of $180,000 in total revenue including the pledged matching funds. The LifeSaver Program has helped us navigate the challenges of COVID.

The second quarter (through March 31, 2022) financials indicate that the current financial condition of the Fellowship is sound.

While the Board has increased the subsidy or scholarships provided to delegates for the 2022 ABC/M to offset room and board costs and registration costs for delegates travelling from outside of North America, there is still a need to get groups and intergroups who are sending delegates to provide additional financial assistance if they have the ability to do so. Contributions should be made to the ABC/M Fundraiser or the travel funds to assist those groups or intergroups that would like to send a delegate but do not have the financial means to do so.

In addition, the BOT is seeking members who would like to up their level of service to consider running for a seat on the Board of Trustees at this year’s ABC/M. The Fellowship needs dedicated trusted servants to step up and help us grow.

The current BOT consists of nine members:
  • Jay G. (OH) – Jay G. is responsible for supervising the office, is the Chair of the Board Human Resources and Personnel Committee (BHRPC) and is the acting Treasurer and Chair of the Board Finance Committee;
  • Rick S. (PA) – Rich chairs the Board 7th Tradition Committee (B7TC);
  • Christina M. (CA) – Christina heads up the Board Technology Committee and is the Secretary;
  • Gabriel G. (CA) – Gabriel chairs the Board Programs and Membership Committee (BPMC);
  • Hernan V. (CA) – Hernan is the Chair of the Board Outreach Committee (BOT);
  • Suzanne D. (TX) – Suzanne is the Chair of the Board Publishing and Distribution Committee (BPDC);
  • Juanita J. (VA) – was assigned to sit on the B7TC and the BPMC;
  • Sam E. (NJ) – was assigned to sit on the BCTC and the BFC;
  • Seth S. (MA) – I am the Board of Trustees Chair, President of the corporation and Chair of the Board Development Committee (BDC), the Board Copyright and Translation Committee (BCTC).

Conference Committee liaisons have changed slightly as well. Current BOT Conference Committee liaisons are: Jay G. -  CLC and CSC; Rick S. – CAC and CMRC; Christina M. – CSTCC; Gabriel G. – CDC and CICC; Hernan V. – CFC and CHRC; Suzanne D. –CPIC; Juanita J. – CJC, CSpC and CTIOC; Sam E. – CBC; and Seth S. – CCC and Chairs call.
.
As pandemic concerns begin to lessen and we search for a new “normal” we are trying to reconnect to our program through more in-person interactions. Please stay safe out there.

Service feeds Sobriety,
Seth S.

Letter from the Executive Director
Hello from hot, sunny San Antonio, Texas! We are still a month shy of the official “first day of summer,” but one would never know that from the record-breaking temperatures here in the Alamo City. That old saying “April showers bring May flowers” never quite rang true, as our April was extremely dry. But as Nature often reminds us, life down here is quite resilient and South Texas is now alive with colorful wildflowers even in the midst of a drought. As Spring gives way to Summer, the bluebonnets along the roadside will give way to prickly-pear cactus blossoms in all shades of pink and purple. (And those taste pretty great, too!)

We are now about 11 weeks from the start of ABM 2022 in beautiful Sacramento, California! The dates this year are August 9th thru 12th, and our venue is the Hilton Arden West. We are excited to finally be returning to an in-person ABM after two years of being online due to public health concerns. We are already gearing up with preparations at the F.W.S. Office and are much looking forward to seeing familiar faces once again… as well as meeting new friends! For those of you who have not been able to attend an ABM in the past, you might consider adding that to your “recovery bucket list.”  Registration for ABM 2022 is underway. This year, the Board of Trustees has also approved a $610 scholarship available to all delegates. This scholarship is intended to help those Intergroups who may not be in a financial position to otherwise send a delegate.  Of course, if your Intergroup is fortunate enough to have funds to do so, please consider making an additional contribution at the time of ABM registration to further assist other Intergroups that may wish to attend. The goal is to have wide and varied representation from Intergroups both large and small, domestic and international alike.

PDF versions of S.L.A.A. pamphlets continue to sell well on our web store. Ordering pamphlets in digital format provides the reader with immediate access at no shipping cost. That is a win-win!

From the F.W.S. Office to all our Fellows around the world, we send our best wishes. We look forward to seeing you in Sacramento soon!

Respectfully,

Pam Martin
Executive Director

The Conference Literature Committee Needs Your Help!

Read the Proposed Revised Version of
Chapters One, Two, and Three of the Basic Text

Friends in Recovery,

Fifteen months ago, the 50th-Anniversary Basic Text Subcommittee (50BTS) began its work in reviewing the 623 responses to the “Change or Not to Change” survey - the survey designed to help determine which direction to take with the Basic Text 50th Anniversary edition for 2026.

We are grateful to all who responded to this survey. The responses you submitted helped us move in the direction of lightly editing the Basic Text chapters, respecting the voice of the writer but correcting for punctuation, spelling, formatting, and, as needed, changing parts of the text to read more clearly.

The first three chapters of the Basic Text are ready to read and available as draft literature for your feedback. The 50BTS wants to include you again in reviewing these chapters and asking for your feedback on them.

Please announce this opportunity in your meetings, groups and Intergroup and share the attached flier. The flier includes the link to a red-line edit of Chapters 1-3 and a short feedback form. Your feedback is important to us!

Gratefully,
The 50th-Anniversary Basic Text Subcommittee
