Greetings From South Texas

A note from Pastor Sheri Dittman, First Presbyterian Church, Brownsville

We are looking forward to hosting Mission Presbytery’s Stated Meeting October 18 & 19 at First Presbyterian Church, Brownsville and celebrating the retirement of our precious Sallie Watson! I hear we are expecting record numbers at this event. If you have never been to South Texas, I hope you can spend some time here taking in the rich culture and flora and fauna. One of my favorite sights is the palm trees lining the highways as you get closer to us. Check out www.visitbtx.com.

Here is some crucial information before you head this way:

  • parking is limited like it is at other churches. PLEASE, if able carpool, carpool, and carpool some more. If your congregation has a church van, why not get connected with congregations in your area? Can you say: party bus!
  • make your reservations sooner than later. Here are 2 hotels with reserved rooms under “Mission Presbytery”:

The Courtyard by Marriott (20 rooms reserved) $149.00

956-350-4600 (Andrea Meneses)

3955 N. Expressway Brownsville, TX 78520

Residence Inn (10 rooms reserved)   $179.00

956-3508100 (Jeanette Ambriz)

Sallie's Ponderings

In watching the 1941 classic Meet John Doe, Sallie is reminded that especially in these polarized times, we need to meet our neighbors. We need to talk and listen, realizing we have a role in each other's lives.
