California Housing Partnership releases 2023 affordable housing needs reports for Sacramento region

The California Housing Partnership has released the 2023 housing needs reports for all six Sacramento region counties, and conditions for low income residents continue to be strained.

  • 55,711 low-income renter households in Sacramento County do not have access to an affordable home.


  • In 2022 in Yolo County, there were only 692 beds available in the interim and permanent housing supply for persons experiencing homelessness.


  • Renters in Placer County need to earn $36.92 per hour--2.4 times the state minimum wage--to afford the average monthly asking rent of $1,920.


  • 70% of extremely low-income households in El Dorado County are paying more than half of their income on housing costs compared to 3% of moderate-income households.


In response to CHP's reports, SHA has compiled a list of 2023 policy recommendations for the region's distressing affordable housing crisis. Here are our suggestions for Sacramento, Yolo, El Dorado and Placer counties.

SHRA offers lead hazard reduction assistance


SHRA is offering assistance to home owners of vacant, owner-occupied and rental-occupied units to reduce hazards resulting from lead-based paints in the home.


This program funds up to $10,000 per housing unit to homes in Sacramento County. Recipients must meet some qualifications, like an income threshold or the home being occupied by a pregnant woman or child under six-years-old.
