Season Opens with History Tours of Moffett Mill & Schoolhouse

This year's season opens with a very special thanks to Lincoln Tire & Auto!  After our passenger van broke down at the end of last season and the repairs were far too extensive to warrant the expense for us, Lincoln Tire took it and made several thousand dollars worth of repairs with the intent of keeping the van for their own use.  Much to our surprise, the van was delivered back to us last week, and it's all fixed!  Lincoln Tire & Auto is providing the van to us on loan as a Sponsor this season to ensure that the Mill may open.  Van transportation and drop off are the only safe way to access the Mill which sits right on the roadway.  THANK YOU, LINCOLN TIRE & AUTO for being so generous, and for "saving the day" and allowing us to open the Mill!

Our 2022 season kicks off on Sunday, March 20th.  In addition to a special workshop being held that afternoon, "Developing Your Psychic Abilities," that was announced a few weeks ago, we are delighted to be opening the 1812 Moffett Mill. This early relic of the Industrial Revolution operated with water power from the Moshassuck River and provided custom work and repairs for area businesses and farms, from wagons, buggies and tools to laces for shoes and corsets around the period of the Civil War.  It is set up just as it was when the mill closed around 1900.

Shuttle transport will drop off and pick up visitors on a set schedule.  This is the only safe access way to visit the Mill.  Because of limited space, advance registration is requested and a time slot selected for your visit between 12-2:30 p.m.  Admission to the Moffett Mill is $5 per person, which includes the shuttle transportation, and is payable in cash upon boarding the shuttle at the parking lot at Chase Farm Park.

Located next to the Visitors Center at the Park, the 1850 one-room Pullen's Corner Schoolhouse will also open between 12-3 p.m. Dressed in period attire, the schoolteacher will invite guests to take a seat at the bench desks and learn some of the lessons that children ages 5-15 would have been taught together in one class in this rural schoolhouse.  Known as the "Hot Potato Schoolhouse," Lincoln's last schoolhouse was relocated to Chase Farm Park from its original location on Angell Road by the town of Lincoln and has been totally restored and furnished.  A  donation of $3 or $5 for a family at the schoolhouse is suggested.  Cash payments only upon arrival at site.

While visiting the Park, stop in at the Hannaway Blacksmith Shop, where you can watch the blacksmith shape hot metal into useful implements.  Visits to the Blacksmith Shop are free.  Should you be intrigued with the demonstration, you are welcome to sign up to take a class at the shop at a future date.  Classes are offered every Sunday between 8 am - 2 pm. but must be purchased and scheduled in advance.
