Lady

She was our loyal friend, companion, and four-legged love.  Her name was Lady and I have written about her several times over the years, but this will be my final tribute. Not because we are crushed that she is no longer with us, though we are, but because she was a God given gift that just kept on giving. .. LOVE… til the very end.   She was 13 and her body just gave way, and she had lost her hearing, much of her sight and in the end did not have strength to walk without help. Her time had come to say goodbye.  And goodbye's are tough...

I know so many of you can relate to the sadness of losing a family pet, and the feelings that linger.  For though they could not speak, they could communicate without saying a word.  With a paw touch, a look, a tail wag or a bark…or just following you around the house just to be with you.  The heart of the matter was that you mattered, and they mattered to you.

My tribute to Lady..and thank you to God for the sweet and precious gift of this treasured dog:

She loved unconditionally ….so does God

She needed to be fed… so do we on earth and through God’s heavenly direction

She listened and watched our every move… God listens and watches our every move

She was a peaceful little one, no drama... God so wants us to be at peace even in the midst of chaos

She sat quietly so often at my feet… God calls us to sit as his feet

She had her spot… that no one could replace… God has given each of us a unique spot in his kingdom and our personalities and character are ours alone

She had a great sense of smell - could tell if something or someone was good or not so good - God has given us a sense of awareness to know if something or someone is right or wrong

She was patient and knew how to wait... God sometimes is telling us to wait... when we are anxious or fearful

She was a watchdog - God is our watchman

She was a friend and comforter – so is our God

She had a desire to follow us wherever we went – Do we have that desire to follow God

She didn’t care what roads we took as long as she was invited to come…

whether it was a walk, a car trip, errands…etc. – it was being included and not left behind - God wants to be invited on all of our ventures.

She trusted us- Do we trust God?

She was a loyal companion - God is our loyal companion

She would sit quietly beside me when she knew things were ruffled – God sits quietly beside us in times of trials

She would happily wag her tale and almost stand up with eagerness when she felt joy was abounding in the room.. God shares our joys

She was always glad to see us when we had left and come back God loves it each time we come to him

She suffered with courage and trust – but I know she knew we would never leave her – God suffers with us and he has promised to never leave or abandon us.

She was grateful for attention and love in any degree – God is grateful when we love and praise him.

I know this is a very unconventional way of sharing a four legged love story… but Lady in her own way was a reminder to me of the faithful and loving and present God who watches over us at every moment, loves us unconditionally and shares in our joys and our sorrows and will never leave us.

God gives us special gifts of love in our lifetime, most of the time is through family or friends or loved ones along the way.

And when the time comes to say goodbye, to someone you have loved dearly it hurts, and there is an empty space that takes time to heal. They may be in their heavenly home but their legacy remains vibrant in our hearts.

But I am convinced that God has sent little four legged friends to love and be loved as well.  And though they are not people, they seem to find a place in our hearts that we cherish.  And when their time has come to say goodbye, that journey of sadness is very real as well.  I am grateful our little Lady.. she was a Lady by all definitions… she never nipped at anyone or hardly ever barked, and was loved … and loved right back.  This might seem silly but:

There is a song by Keith Whitley titled:

“You say it best when you say nothing at all”.

To me it kind of related to my Lady and maybe to a pet you have or have had to say goodbye to as well.

It's amazing how you can speak right to my heart

Without saying a word you can light up the dark

Try as I may I could never explain

What I hear when you don't say a thing

The smile on your face lets me know that you need me

There's a truth in your eyes saying you'll never leave me

touch of your hand says you'll catch me if ever I fall

Now you say it best when you say nothing at all

All day long I can hear people talking out loud

But when you hold me near you drown out the crowd

Old Mister Webster could never define

What's being said between your heart and mine

The smile on your face lets me know that you need me

There's a truth in your eyes saying you'll never leave me

touch of your hand says you'll catch me if ever I fall

Now you say it best when you say nothing at all

The smile on your face lets me know that you need me

There's a truth in your eyes saying you'll never leave me

touch of your hand says you'll catch me if ever I fall

Now you say it best when you say nothing at all

Just thought it fitting because sometimes we to say it best when we say nothing at all..and we show love and kindness instead in deeds instead of words.

Blessings,

Cathy

Just as the life of a little dog can matter so mach to each of us;

REMEMBER

it is a much grander truth to know that

You matter to God and I pray God matters to you!

Praise God wherever you are and whatever situation He has allowed you to be in . . . His glory will shine through!
