Fighting the Fentanyl Overdose Epidemic
|
August 21st is National Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day, and the City is joining the County's efforts to raise awareness about the dangers of fentanyl and how to prevent overdose deaths. Fentanyl is the deadliest drug threat facing our nation, and it is present in every city, community, and neighborhood. To address this crisis, the County has implemented a countywide "Harm Reduction Strategy" that includes the distribution of fentanyl test strips and naloxone (Narcan). Narcan is a nasal spray that when used quickly can save lives and reverse an opioid overdose. These life-saving tools are available for free at various locations across the county, ensuring easy access for those in need. We encourage residents to use the link below to obtain these free resources for your home to protect yourself and your loved ones from the dangers of fentanyl.

Space is limited, so register now, and don’t forget your helmet and a bike, e-bike or adult tri-cycle in good working order.
Save the Date: Free Fall Prevention Workshop
|
In honor of National Fall Prevention Awareness Week in September, Scripps Health is coming to Solana Beach to host a free Fall Prevention Workshop on Friday, September 27th, at La Colonia Community Center. Falls are preventable, but they continue to be the leading cause of emergency department visits for older adults. This workshop will cover essential tips on fall prevention, balance improvement, and how certain medications can increase fall risk. You’ll also learn about evidence-based fall prevention programs and have the opportunity to speak with facilitators of community classes designed to reduce the likelihood of falls. The City and Scripps Health encourage you to attend this important workshop and take a proactive approach to fall prevention.
