Tai Tokerau Trades Training Bi-Monthly Newsletter -
March - April 2023
Nau mai, haere mai, whakatau mai!
Kia ora Whānau and happy easter to you all.

We hope you are settling well into your school year routine and looking forward to the holidays.

During term 1, Tai Tokerau Trades Training has been running events, visiting schools and connecting with industries to provide the best services for our schools/kura.

We are looking to continue this in term 2 with even more significant events and opportunities for our Tai Tamariki.

There are many opportunities out there, and here at Tai Tokerau Trades training, we want to help you bridge that gap.

Welcome back to one of our Whānau Mahi
Alice Furrell returns to our team with a promotion as our Lead Vocational Coordinator after ten months of parental leave. She welcomed the gorgeous pēpi Piper Parker into the world on April 19th last year and has spent some time focusing on being a mama and enjoying her new whānau addition.

She is thrilled to be back in the office connecting with teachers and students of Te Tai Tokerau, working to create better career transitions in our community. This mahi is a great passion of Alice's, and we are excited to have her back on board our waka!

Tools of The Trade
In March, Tai Tokerau Trades Training ran another successful “Tools of the Trade” event at Te Kura Kaupapa Maōri ō Kaikohe.

We were fortunate to have local employers and industry representatives come and showcase what day-to-day work looks like for them by delivering interactive workshops that allowed ākonga to use their tools and have a go for themselves!

Electrical, Carpentry, Tools, and Automotive Engineering were the highlighted industries in this terms Tools Of the Trade event. These industries were insightful about career pathways in their specific industries, and the ākonga took a genuine interest in what the industry presenters had to say.

At Tai Tokerau Trades Training, we like to involve our smaller schools/kura in these events as they often do not have the resources which some of the larger kura in Tai Tokerau do. We aim to showcase Trades and the fantastic opportunities they offer to all our taitamariki, hoping to inspire the new generation of trade superstars!

The most rewarding aspect of these events is seeing ākonga have a go and enjoy the challenge that some of these workshops bring, breaking comfort zones and expressing questions to the employers with a keenness to learn more.

We want to thank Te Kura Kaupapa Māori ō Kaikohe for hosting the event and working with us to organise and set it all up. We also want to express our gratitude towards the industries for coming and sharing their knowledge with ākonga.

We look forward to our next Tools of the Trade event at Tikipunga High School in Term 2!
Teachers Only Day

On Friday 31st of March, E2E ran a teachers' event hosted by Bay of Islands College. The event saw many teachers from across Te Tai Tokerau come and enjoy workshops from different externals and learn about cadetships, apprenticeships and ways for students to become more immersed in the digital realm.

Tai Tokerau Trades Training and other providers could present their services to teachers and interact with each other. This was useful as we made connections and learned new material to help ākonga with their future paths.

We encourage all teachers to come to these events and be part of shaping our Tai Tamariki.
