The Girls Varsity Lacrosse team wrapped up their season last week with a fun banquet and a playoff game in Madison.
The ladies started the week out with their end of season banquet honoring the seniors. They had an amazing time giving out paper plate awards and hearing the juniors give their senior speeches. Several of our players earned Classic 8 Conference recognition as well: Honorable Mentions went to Katie O'Hagan, Stella Kim, Siena Commare, Lily Eliopulos and Sophie Gerew. Emma Beaulieu, goalie, was named 1st team All Conference. Lastly, our Highlander Award Winner was Kendall Coburn! Congratulations Ladies.

ITS PLAYOFF TIME! The HHS Varsity Girls soccer team has successfully made it through 2 rounds of playoffs. Round 1 was against Sheboygan South claiming victory with a 7-0 win. Round 2 was a tough and nail biting game against Hamilton, leaving us scoreless after regulation play. The lady highlanders took the lead when Cadence Benedit scored in the first 10 minute overtime, and held off their opponent winning 1-0. This makes our varsity girls Regional champions in the Division 1 Soccer! Way to go ladies!
They now take on Brookfield East this Thursday at 7:00pm at Brookfied East. Please come cheer on the team!!
Monday night was also the all time favorite ritual of Futbol vs Football. This is always so much fun to watch and in the end the Lady Higlanders prevailed after going into Penalty Kicks!!!

Our Wisconsin’s best Boys & Girls track and field participants competed in the WIAA State Championships that took place Friday June 3rd & Saturday June 4th at the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse.

Varsity -
Homestead Varsity Baseball won their games in the Regional playoffs this week.
May 31 home against Milwaukee School of Languages, win 11-0
Seeded #4 in their region, Homestead was the best seed not to get a bye in the first round of regionals. This meant that they were pitted against the worst seed. The Highlanders made short work of their opponent.
Deed Capper started on the mound for Homestead and pitched 3 sterling innings with no hits, no runs, and 8 strike outs.
Aidan Patten continued the excellent pitching coming in to relieve, pitching 2 innings, giving up no hits, no runs, and striking out 4.
Griffin Bowers had 1 hit and 2 RBIs. Nick Haller, Zach Bartol, Will Vierling each had 1 hit and 1 RBI. Anthony Chung also had 1 hit.
Some JV players got a taste of Varsity action.
The game was stopped after the top of the 5th inning due to the 10 run rule.

Thursday June 2 home against Brookfield East, win 1-0
The Highlanders played their last home game of the season in this second Regional playoff game agains Brookfield East. And this game was much different than their previous game. This opponent was not going to be defeated early by the 10 run rule.
Pitching was fantastic for both sides. Jackson Brewer was on the mound for the Highlanders and he had complete control of his pitches. Brewer pitched 6 innings, only giving up 1 hit, no runs, striking out 7.
Highlanders had runners in the 2nd and 3rd innings but could not bring them home.
The game remained scoreless into the bottom of the fourth inning. Carl Roemke was hit by a pitch, getting to first. With the count 3-2 on Tyler Miller at bat, Roemke stole 2nd base. Then Miller hit a gapper to the left centerfield fence for a double, scoring Roemke.
Brewer made that one run lead hold up in the 5th and 6th. He was still pitching strong but was nearing his pitch limit for the game. Steven Yang came in to pitch the 7th. He struck out the first batter, then walked the next batter and gave up a single to put men on 1st and 2nd. He struck out the next batter for the 2nd out. The next batter hit a blooper between the pitcher and 2nd base. Anthony Chung charged in and threw across to first. Brewer, now playing first base went up to catch the ball and got his toe down on the bag in a bang bang play for the final out, preserving the win.
Chung also had a double in this game. Miller had a single in addition to the run scoring double. Will Vierling, and Carl Roemke also had hits.
Homestead Baseball will face Whitefish Bay in the Sectional playoff game Today, Tuesday June 7th, at 10 AM at Brookfield Central.

Homestead opened the playoffs as the #9 seed in the 24 team state tournament, earning a home draw against Cedarburg. The rematch was tighter and more physical than the regular season finale (12-2 HHS over CHS on 5/24), but the Highlanders still prevailed handily. The tone was set at the faceoff position where Jonah Stammer continued his strong play by winning 75% of the draws. Six players tallied goals, led by Austin Krueger’s 5 scores and 1 assist. Ball movement and passing were too much for Cedarburg as 9 of HHS’ 14 goals were assisted. Rounding out the scoring were Nate Pound with 3 goals and 2 assists, JJ Perez and Robby Coburn (2 G & 2 A each), Sean West (1 G & 3 A) and freshman Chris Auchter with a goal. Defensive midfielders Butchie Elliott, Alex Vlasik, Leo Falender, Liam McGourthy and Brendan Kurtin worked tirelessly to protect the goal and clear the ball versus an aggressive CHS squad. The final score in the Homestead victory was 14-7 as the focus turned to Round 2.
Friday night the team traveled to #8 seed Arrowhead looking to avenge an 11-4 regular season loss. The game started slowly for HHS despite several good looks at goals. Arrowhead led 6-1 at half as the Highlanders regrouped. Early in Q3 Robby Coburn (3 G & 1 A) scored his 2nd of the game followed by a quick Jonah Stammer goal off a faceoff win! Stammer very much took over at faceoff, winning most of the 2nd half draws and collecting a team-high 9 ground balls. He finished with a 69% win rate which fueled the comeback. Sean West (2 G) and Brady Allen (1 G) had strong second half play, complementing Nate Pound and Austin Krueger (1 G & 1 A each). Homestead tied the game 7-7 early in the 4th and regular time ended at 9-9. Goalie Drew Baranko had 8 tough saves and the young defense of Reed Bowers, David Foster and freshman Jack Read allowed the team to climb back. Overtime started with another Stammer win and Homestead possession. HHS set the offense and had two good shots on goal. Unfortunately an Arrowhead save gave them the ball and they eventually scored the winner. One of the best and most competitive games in program history ended in a 10-9 OT loss. Lots to be proud of in this fun and successful season and lots to look forward to! Another big thanks to our four seniors ( Drew, Butchie, JJ & Alex! ) and the coaches who gave their efforts and time!!
