The Mighty Meta Organ is Here!

The day has finally arrived for the newly completed Meta Organ, built by Dan Lemieux and Associates of Argyle, NY, to be inaugurated. On Sunday, All Saints’ Day, we will officially dedicate the organ to the glory of God and in gratitude and memory of All Saints of Northminster Church. It will be affectionately known as “The All Saints Organ.”

The versatility of the instrument is as astounding as is its authentic sounds. Without too much detail, which I can happily give you, technology known as digital sampling provides a very accurate sound of pipes from some of the best organs in the world. Our All Saints Organ has 15 such instruments representing classic American, English, German, and French styles, as well as a theater organ, to name a few. There are also a Flemish two manual harpsichord and a Belgian Carillon.

The addition of expression and variety of sounds will add a new dimension to hymn singing, the primary job of a church organ, as well as choir accompaniment and solo offerings. This expressivity was absent in the Moeller tracker that has served us well these past 32 years.

Thank you, Dan and Melissa, who drove a van and trailer 1500 miles and then worked tirelessly for three days to make the installation perfect in many ways. Their work involves an intricate knowledge of many facets of digital technology, computer wizardry, electronics, sound technology, and shear physical ability and determination to make this all possible.

Thanks be to God for the gift of music.

Our Worship in Song

Opening Hymn:  O Savior, for the Saints

This was one of several original hymns appended to Richard Mant's book of translations of Latin hymns from the Roman Breviary. A priest of the Church of England, Mant was for man years bishop in Ireland.

Middle Hymn: God, We Thank You for Our People Ruth Duck created this text at the request of Harold McSwain, Jr., for a family reunion . She found her inspiration in the stories of Harold, Sr., and in her own family heritage.

Anthem:  For All the Saints

This is a traditional All Saints Day hymn by William W. How which consisted of eleven stanzas written for the Sarum Hymnal (1869) and set to a tune by that name, Sarum. It has grown in popularity since it was later paired with the enduring SINE NOMINE tune by English composer, Ralph Vaughan William, in The English Hymnal (1906). The choir will sing an arrangement of this hymn by Earl Rosenberg in 1951.

Communion Anthem: Call To Remembrance

Richard Farrant, 1530-1581, wrote this early anthem that was published much later, 1983. We are called to remember the loving and tender mercy of God. It is a wonderful anthem for both the Lenten season and for communion.

Closing Hymn: I Sing a Song of the Saints of God This text was included in Lesbia Scott's Everyday Hymns for Little Children with her original words, music, and illustration. A native of Britain, Scott was also the author of six published plays and enjoyed painting until her death in 1986.
