Top 10 Tips for Teachers of Students with Hearing Loss
by Education Service Center Region 13 in Texas

Students who are deaf and hard of hearing have unique needs and challenges when it comes to learning in the classroom. By following these top 10 tips for teaching your students with hearing loss, you can make sure they succeed in, and outside of, the classroom.
Top 10 Tips:
  1. Be prepared by reading their FIE and IEP.
  2. Be a great communicator by facing them while speaking and getting their attention, don't cover your mouth.
  3. Use and test your amplification equipment.
  4. Minimize background noise that might make it harder for your students to hear.
  5. Pay attention to seating, make sure their better ear is facing you or their classrooms.
  6. Use visual aids like posters, objects, and graphic organizers, and make sure to write everything on the board.
  7. Only use captioned media, without closed captions, students might lose access.
  8. Slow down and give them time to read, look, and focus.
  9. Provide outlines ahead of time, review the lessons at the end of the day, and ask the student for tips.
  10. Have great expectations for you and your students.

State EoC Subscriptions
State EoC Subscriptions are Open for the nine CASE courses delivered via NOCTI, a third-party assessment agency.

Why should my program facilitate CASE End-of-Course Assessments (EoCs)?
  • The end-of-course (EoC) assessments were developed by CASE to align with CASE concepts and National AFNR Common Career Technical Core Standards. The assessments are available through NOCTI, serving as the CASE partner for third-party delivery. EoC assessments serve as a measurement of student success that is nationwide, valid, and reliable, and comparable across the country. These end-of-course assessments meet Perkins V requirements.
  • CASE EoCs provide teachers, administrators, and other stakeholder groups with student performance data.
  • CASE encourages institutions to include CASE EoC benchmarks as performance measurements in articulation and dual credit agreements.

Ready to get started?

EoCs are available for the following CASE courses:
  • Introduction to Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources
  • Principles of Agricultural Science - Animal
  • Principles of Agricultural Science - Plant
  • Agricultural Power and Technology
  • Natural Resources and Ecology
  • Animal and Plant Biotechnology
  • Food Science and Safety
  • Mechanical Systems in Agriculture
  • Environmental Science Issues
