Don't miss the chance to join the conversation and make homelessness a priority in Budget 2023
Right now, pre-budget consultations are taking place. As Canada faces a new wave of homelessness, it's more important than ever to join these conversations, share your ideas—and help shape Budget 2023 by ensuring housing is on the agenda.
Join the conversation by taking five minutes to complete an anonymous pre-budget questionnaire or by uploading a submission and include the urgent need for a Homelessness Prevention and Housing Benefit (HPHB)—a benefit that would keep hundreds of thousands of people living in Canada in their homes and support tens of thousands of people experiencing homelessness back into housing—as part of your recommended priorities for the government’s upcoming budget.

Dufferin County is working with StrategyCorp to develop its strategic plan. StrategyCorp’s team will be facilitating engagement sessions both virtually and in-person. You are welcome to join in the conversation at either one or both of the following opportunities:

What trends will impact charities and nonprofits in the first quarter of 2023?
It’s the dawn of a new year, and if it’s anything like the last few years, it will be an eventful one. Many of the trends we saw last year will continue to evolve and impact the sector this year while unforeseen events are certain to throw us some additional curveballs. Volunteer shortages, a gloomy economic outlook and increasing immigration levels are some of the trends we’re keeping an eye on.
Foundation for Black Communities chosen to administer Black-led Philanthropic Fund
In Budget 2021, the government announced it would create a $200 million philanthropic fund to provide long-term sustainable funding and self-sustaining resources for Black-led organizations to better serve Black Canadian communities.
House of Commons committee releases report on labour shortages, working conditions and the care economy
Given that many of the workers in the nonprofit sector would be considered care economy workers, this report will be of interest to many in the sector. We were particularly interested in the following recommendation: “That the Government of Canada review compensation and benefits for care economy workers under its jurisdiction with a view to ensuring decent work and a regionally competitive wage; and further, that it work with the provinces and territories to improve working conditions for other workers in the care economy...”
In a culture where hustling is commended, working long hours is a brag, and exhaustion is a competition, it can be hard not to feel burned out. Unfortunately, many people don’t realize that there are 7 different types of rest they may need, so they become stuck in a cycle of exhaustion. It is crucial to understand these different types of rest so you can plan for the combination most appropriate for your personality, body, and individual needs. READ MORE.
