Project Protect Newsletter
When bad things – unimaginable things – happen, we often feel helpless. What can be done? What can we do to effect real and meaningful change, to save people's lives and protect them from harm?

The answer is rarely as straightforward as we would like.

At Family Services, planning for the safety of people in our community has been a part of our mission for over 120 years. It's why we actively partner with schools, hospitals, law enforcement, other nonprofits, businesses, the United Way, and our local community foundations to make sure that every person who needs help in Northeast Wisconsin can access the right services with fewer barriers to care.

With the support of individuals like yourself, we take action so that each person and family can build the kinds of caring connections that are needed to drive away isolation and mistrust while they develop healthy ways of coping with whatever challenges they are facing – whether it be mental health, behavior, stressful life changes, or a traumatic experience.

It's not the whole solution; but, with your support, we are doing everything within our control to address these complex problems.

Good things are happening here. We see it every day in the people who open their hearts and homes to us, and in the people who give back generously to our mission and others, as well as to their communities.

Together, we'll continue to take the necessary steps to keep our communities safe and individuals healthy.

With hope and determination,
IMPACT: Mental Health Awareness Month
May was Mental Health Awareness Month. We used this as a time to raise awareness for our services and encourage community members to seek care for whatever issues they may be struggling with.

In that one month, we answered 1,700 Crisis Calls to our Brown County Crisis Center and provided in-person support to 363 people in crisis – including 121 people who utilized these services for the first time due to thoughts of self-harm, suicide, or acute emotional distress.

Also in May, our team of professional therapists in Green Bay and Menasha provided outpatient therapy to 771 children and adults, 96 of whom were new.

Through these mental health services, individuals and families were able to get the help they need to cope with life's stressors. In situations where there were concerns about potential harm to self or others, we helped that person and their support system make a plan for safety and set up more long-term care.

We could not do this important work without our incredible community of supporters. Thank you!
