2024 Election Slate

GLAR Members,

The Nominating Committee, chaired by 2023 Immediate Past President Brooke Hunt, recommend the following individuals for the 2023 Board of Director and Officer slate.

Election will be held on November 9th, 2023.

Nominating Committee recommendation for 2023 Board of Directors:

President: Justus Carlile

President-Elect: Eyad Salloum

Secretary Treasurer: Brent Myers

Directors: (2 year terms)

Pamela Shelton

Additional candidates for the offices to be filled may be placed in nomination by petition signed by at least ten 10% of the REALTOR® Members eligible to vote(150). The petition shall be filed with the Chief Staff Executive at least two (2) weeks before the election. The Chief Executive Officer shall send notice of such additional nominations to all Members eligible to vote before the election.

UPDATE: NAR Litigation

STATEMENT FROM NAR PRESIDENT TRACY KASPER

I have an important litigation update. After an 11-day trial in the case of Burnett v. NAR et al, the eight-person jury in a Kansas City, Mo., federal courtroom, came back Tuesday and found the National Association of REALTORS® and other corporate defendants liable in the case.

This matter is not close to being final. We will appeal the liability finding because we stand by the fact that NAR rules serve the best interests of consumers, support market-driven pricing and advance business competition. We remain optimistic we will ultimately prevail. In the interim, we will ask the court to reduce the damages awarded by the jury.

In court, NAR presented evidence that consumers are better off and business competition is able to thrive because of our rules and how well local MLS broker marketplaces function. In fact, the NAR cooperative compensation rule for local MLS broker marketplaces ensures efficient, transparent and equitable marketplaces where sellers can sell their home for more and have their home seen by more buyers while buyers have more choices of homes and can afford representation. NAR also presented that REALTORS® are everyday working Americans who are experts at helping consumers navigate the complexities of home purchases and advocates for fair housing and wealth building for all.

October Recap!

On October 4th GLAR and GDWAR co-hosted the Legislative Breakfast. Event was moderated by Texas REALTORS Director of Political Policy Julia Parenteau. Government Affairs Chairs: Brent Myers, GLAR; and Lisa McIntire, GDWAR; invited our state representatives to give an update on the 88th Legislative session. Over 50 attendees attended this event!

Thank you to all who joined us for the Chamber Wind Down Wednesday event on October 11th. We had over 40 attendees composed of GLAR members and Chamber members.

We hope you can join us for future events.

GLAR hosted the second session of the 2023- 2024 Texas REALTORS Leadership Program. Attendees heard from Brooke Hunt and Marvin Jolly on the topic of : Your Role as a Leader.

MLS Updates

Restb.ai coming to NTREIS

Restb will bring artificial intelligence features into Matrix, including automatic photo tagging, descriptions and compliance. While full listing input features will roll out in phases, the tagging feature will be coming in the next 30-60 days, offering ADA compliant alt tags for all photos which will then be available for distribution in data feeds for Broker website displays.

2024 NTREIS Secretary/Treasurer

The Board of Directors has elected Tammy Kister as 2024 Secretary/Treasurer for NTREIS. . Tammy is Broker/Owner of Absolute Real Estate Management and Broker Associate with Keller Williams Synergy in Abilene. She serves on Board of Directors for the Abilene Association of REALTORS and served as the Abilene Association of REALTORS as President in 2018.

Culture Transformation Commission

The National Association of REALTORS® on Tuesday announced the appointment of a new commission aimed at developing recommendations for changing NAR’s culture. The 75-member Culture Transformation Commission is made up of both members and association staff. The CTC will hold its first meeting Oct. 19.

Trial Updates

On Friday, four more witnesses took the stand for the corporate defendants. The trial will continue Monday morning with one more witness expected, followed by closing statements, jury instructions and then jury deliberation, which could begin as soon as Monday afternoon. A verdict could then be delivered at any point and likely sometime next week.

Fannie Mae Launches New Resources to Help Latino Communities Access Homeownership

Fannie Mae (FNMA/OTCQB) today announced new resources and programs to provide responsible access to housing and long-term sustainable homeownership opportunities across the country for Latino communities and further the company's mission.

Public Improvement Districts (PID) are becoming more common in developing areas in Texas. Last year's complaints about nondisclosure of PID assessments by a builder from some North Texas homeowners prompted the Texas Legislature to pass HB 1543 to beef up PID disclosure notices to buyers and penalties for sellers who fail to deliver the notice. The new requirements went into effect Sept. 1, 2021.
