At CVOEO, we know that together, we are better.

Last week, CVOEO’s Office of Racial Equity & Community Inclusion opened the nomination process for the 2024 New Hope Award, an annual prize that celebrates the contributions and achievements of our New American community. Additionally, join us to observe Hunger Action Month this September. CVOEO strives to enhance our efforts in alleviating hunger through innovation, collaboration, and hope. This year, we took a leap forward in our efforts by connecting our three food programs as Feeding Champlain Valley.

We are also excited to announce our participation in Art Hop 2024, where CVOEO’s Financial Futures Micro Business Program will be co-sponsoring events within Burlington’s creative community for a weekend of fun and art.

We invite you to learn more about our initiatives and find your place in our vibrant community.

Feeding Champlain Valley Highlights

Each month, we are excited to feature updates from Feeding Champlain Valley and our expanding efforts to address hunger in our community.

This month, we welcome and celebrate Healthy Roots Collaborative!

Healthy Roots Collaborative is now a program of CVOEO's Feeding Champlain Valley! This integration is a testament to our shared commitment to enhancing food security, supporting local agriculture, and promoting health and wellness throughout Northwest Vermont. Together, we will forge new paths in improving food access, education, and infrastructure—vital components in our work towards food security.

We are thrilled to welcome Healthy Roots Collaborative staff to our team. Stationed in Franklin and Grand Isle Counties, they will be pivotal in coordinating efforts with NorthWest Family Foods to ensure that our community’s needs are met with compassion and efficiency.

Join us in extending a warm welcome to our newest colleagues and in celebrating this partnership. With their expertise and passion, we are poised to make an even greater impact. Here’s to building a stronger, healthier, and more resilient community, together!

2024 Karibu Cultural Celebration

Saturday, November 2

Karibu, which means “welcome” in Swahili, is CVOEO’s annual community-centered cultural celebration to honor the growing diversity of our region through fashion and performance.

Please join us as we gather to enjoy an evening benefitting CVOEO’s Asylum Seekers Assistance Program! Reserve your ticket via the link below.

All funds raised by Karibu directly support CVOEO's Asylum Seekers Assistance Program, which provides asylees with emergency funds to purchase essential personal items or address an unanticipated financial crisis. These funds are especially critical while asylum seekers’ applications are being processed, as they are not allowed to work during this time and cannot access government-funded services and supports.

Hunger Action Month

Food Access at CVOEO

September is Hunger Action Month, an annual nationwide campaign designed to inspire people to act and raise awareness of hunger. In the Champlain Valley, CVOEO is strengthening food access services.

Through our robust food access centers in Burlington, Middlebury, and St. Albans, we provide essential food resources to thousands of families. However, the need for these services continues to grow.

Rising inflation, increased food prices, and reductions in food assistance programs have significantly affected Vermonters' ability to afford nutritious meals. This has led to a surge in demand for our services, highlighting the urgent need for community support.

By understanding the challenges faced by those in need, we can work together to create a more equitable and food-secure community. Join us this September, and all year long, to raise awareness and support CVOEO's efforts to combat hunger.
