"Sometimes we can only find our true direction when we let the wind of change carry us."

Finding True Direction as we Grow!

In the coming months of spring, we will embark on a journey to fine tune our organization's Strategic Plan. We have a lot to be proud of now and a lot to hope and plan for in the future. Our milestones are many! In five short years, we have strengthened our brand, recruited talented professionals, built critical collaborations with key state and government officials and partners and hosted multiple community engagement events and webinars. In 2021, throughout the state and at no cost to participants, with funding from the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, we provided support to more than 800 individuals and families in six CT towns. Among those 800 are more than 300 individuals who are participating in our Hope After Loss groups, which are comprised of bereaved families processing the tragedy of loss due to addiction. It is a privilege to provide these valuable services and resources, and we could not continue without the support of generous donors, volunteers, key collaborators and partners!

I am proud of who we are and committed to who we will become as we evolve into the future! We have always maintained the highest degree of integrity, transparency, and visibility, and we will continue to do so! We are consistently deliberate about our growth.

I am excited to be entering the next phase of TriCircle's development as an organization, and I am confident that the Strategic Plan will give us the guidance and direction we require to reach full implementation. If we open our minds and hearts to all the possibilities, the winds of change can lead us to the fulfillment of our wildest dreams.

As we maintain focus on our long range plans, we must also meet the challenges along the way with grace and gratitude. My hope is that our supporters are in this for the long haul and remain willing to help in any and every way!

Our burning desire to make a profound and lasting difference is fueled by the need that is now greater than ever. We are currently losing over 100,000 people a year to opioid overdoses in the US alone. This is not even taking into consideration the loss of life due to other substances. We are driven to action by all the families and loved ones left in the wake of this terrible disease and by the over 23 million Americans in recovery, on one path or another, living and thriving without the use of a substance. While we are closer than ever before, we still have a long way to go!
Together WE are Stronger!

TriCircle 2022 Memorial Scholarship Released
TriCircle seeks to identify people who reside in Connecticut and have demonstrated a commitment to further their collegiate or vocational studies. We recognize that the epidemic of substance use disorder exists here in our state and that tragically thousands of wonderful people have died due to the disease of addiction. We have come together to continue this scholarship opportunity, originally created in honor of Michael F. Gagnon II. The TriCircle Memorial Scholarship will be awarding two $2,500 scholarships in 2022. Scholarship applications and information are available on our website www.tricircleinc.com/scholarship, email Christine@tricircleinc.com, or at the front desk where our office is located: Executive Offices 6 Way Road, Middlefield, CT 06455. The signed, completed scholarship application with all supporting documentation must be received in one packet and postmarked no later than April 28th, 2022.

“Maybe this is why we read, and why in moments of darkness we return to books: to find words for what we already know.”

March's Suggested Title,
Author and Book Review

Healing A Parent's Grieving Heart: 100 Practical Ideas After Your Child Dies by Dr. Alan Wolfelt

The deep sorrow that comes with the loss of a child to substance use disorder is lonely, leaving one to feel isolated from friends and family. There are support groups such as Tricircle’s Hope After Loss and GriefShare offering the opportunity to be with those who understand. In addition, there are countless books on coping with the loss of a child, many written by parents or spiritual leaders, speaking to both the joy of the child and the meaning of the loss. I was drawn to Dr. Alan Wolfelt’s book, Healing A Parent's Grieving Heart: 100 Practical Ideas After Your Child Dies. The book covers topics such as family discord and dealing with hurtful advice and your own feelings of guilt. It is not a how-to manual, but rather a slow guide helping readers to express grief, accept help and mourn. The author is a well-known grief counselor and author who believes that we must mourn well and to continue to love ourselves and others. Dr. Wolfet runs the Center for Loss & Life Transition
