IVPL Announcement
The American Library Association (ALA) recently released new data documenting 1,269 demands to censor library books and resources in 2022, the highest number of attempted book bans since ALA began compiling data about censorship in libraries more than 20 years ago. Of those titles, the vast majority were written by or about members of the LGBTQIA+ community and people of color.
The Indian Valley Public Library works to provide a balanced and broad collection of materials in appropriate and varied formats to meet the educational, informational and recreational needs of the entire community. All public libraries contain materials that some patrons may find objectionable.
We believe that young people deserve to see themselves reflected in the library books. We hold strong that it is a parent’s right to guide their children’s reading, but parents should not be making decisions for other parents’ children. We will continue to ensure that all people have access to information in order to strengthen our community and help create a more literate and just society.
National Library Week 2023, April 23-29, will be celebrated with the theme "There's More to the Story."
Libraries are full of stories in a variety of formats from picture books to large print, audiobooks to ebooks, and more. But there's so much more to the story. Libraries of Things lend items like museum passes, games, musical instruments, and tools. Library programming brings communities together for entertainment, education, and connection through book clubs, storytimes, movie nights, crafting classes, and lectures. Library infrastructure advances communities, providing internet and technology access, literacy skills, and support for businesses, job seekers, and entrepreneurs.
National Library Week 2023 will be a great time to tell your library’s multi-faceted story.
2022-2023 Annual Appeal
Gene is a very familiar face around these parts. He gives back in more ways than one. He is a longtime volunteer (over 20 years!) and a donor too. We're grateful for his support and involvement.
IVPL would not exist without the support of our volunteers. Their time and donationshelp keep the doors open.
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you wish to speak about supporting the library.

The Story of the Langhorne, PA Revolutionary War Burial Site
Thursday, April 27th — 7:00—8:00 PM
Community Room
Written orders from General George Washington stated that a hospital would be set up in Four Lanes End (now Langhorne, PA), on January 4, 1777. The burial site contains men from the early battles of the American Revolution. Archeological excavation performed in 1992 revealed that 166 American soldiers were interred on this site. The hospitals were closed on May 15, 1777.
Until an Archaeological Survey was made of this site, only local custom kept the legend of the Revolutionary War Burial Site existent in this unpublished Journal over the years. When owners of the property applied for subdivision of this tract, a request was made to verify the information in both Journal and Letter, as they were known to indicate the burial of Revolutionary War soldiers.
Come join Military historian, Mike Jesberger for a program on this amazing discovery. Today the site is an educational park dedicated to the men of the American Revolution who rest together in Langhorne.
About the presenter: Michael Jesberger is an independent military historian who specializes in the American Revolution and Civil War time periods. He is a member of numerous history-based organizations and active in the reenactment community.
