A psalm of David.

1 The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, 3 he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. 4 Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6 Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

-Psalm 23-

The child knows exactly where to go when they are scared. When nightmares wake her, she runs to her mother’s room. When dark valleys intimidate him, he grabs his father’s arm. Children know where to go when they are scared- they want to be in the presence of their parents.

As loved and redeemed children of God, we need to be reminded we are in the presence of God especially when we are scared. In Psalm 23, King David professes his joyful trust in the Lord, the Good Shepherd King who walks THROUGH the darkest valley with him, and with us. David could have said the Good Shepherd guides us around the darkest valley to avoid it, but he didn’t say that. David doesn’t say the Good Shepherd gives us a lift to fly over the darkest valley, but he didn’t say that either. David proclaimed that even though he walks THROUGH the darkest valley he fears no evil because The Good Shepherd is with him the entire time.

The Good Shepherd is with you too! He never leaves us or abandons us leaving us to walk through difficult times alone. Instead, The Good Shepherd gives us comfort in the darkest valleys of life as we walk through them. Jesus said, “I am with you always…” So when you are feeling scared, turn to David’s words in Psalm 23 and be reminded of who it is that is with you- The Good Shepherd who defeated death forever.

Sunday, we continue our series The Tomb is Still Empty. I can’t wait!

The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

Getting to know the people of Grace Fellowship

Meet Chelsea, Robert,

Jack (6 yrs) & Owen (3 yrs) Helmkamp

How long have you lived in the valley?

We have lived here for a year and a half. We were in Lakewood, Colorado for 8 years prior to that. Rob and I went to college at Butler University and spent time in downtown Chicago after graduating. (Chelsea loved it and Robert did not; moving to Eagle is Rob's dream come true!)

What do you and your family like to do in your spare time?

We like to ski! Chelsea is trying to like running and planning to run a half marathon in August.

Share something fun about yourself that we might not already know.

Prior to Covid and the craziness of two small kids- Rob and I would bike tour and enjoy route one in California. We also love to travel to other ski resorts- our favorite ski resort is Whistler, Blackcomb.
