Zoom is introducing a new join flow for joining meetings. The New Meeting Join Flow streamlines the user experience of joining a meeting. Currently, users see up to three separate dialogue windows during the join flow: Please wait for the host to join, the video preview window, and the Waiting Room. Among these improvements, the functionality of the first “waiting for host” window is combined with the third Waiting Room window. For more information on what is changing, please review the FAQ page.

Summer 2023 Graduation Contract Deadline

On behalf of the Registrar's Office

The due date for Summer 2023 graduation contracts is 5:00 p.m. on 06/09/23. Contracts may still be submitted after this date, however a $25 will automatically be assessed and placed on the student bill.

All electronic contracts should be sent to the designated email: graduationcontracts@csupueblo.edu.

PLEASE DO NOT SEND DUPLICATE COPIES OF CONTRACTS IN EITHER ELECTRONIC OR HARD COPY FORMAT, AS THIS CREATES CONFUSION AND HINDERS THE ENTRY PROCESS.

Please review the following common issues on all graduation contracts before submission:

• Intended semester for graduation, catalog year, degree intent and all major(s), emphasis area(s) and minor(s) are correct and reflect what is in Banner and on DARS audit.

 • All DARS audit deficiencies noted are fixed PRIOR to contract submission. (Exceptions and petitions must be reflected on the DARS audit prior to submission.)

• ALL required signatures are present.

• A current “green” DARS audit is attached and reflects accurate student enrollment information. For electronic contract submission please save the audit as a pdf and attach it to the email.

All contracts are reviewed before being placed in the degree conferral queue. If any of the above issues are found, the contract will be returned for corrections before being placed in the queue, and may then be subject to a late fee if re-submitted after the deadline.

Please note degree conferral and participation in the commencement ceremony follow separate processes and deadlines. The information in this announcement refers solely to degree conferral. Information regarding the commencement ceremony can be found by clicking the website link below or emailing commencement@csupueblo.edu.

June Blackboard Maintenance - Old Courses Will Be Moved to Offline Archive

On behalf of Academic Technology

In late June of 2023, we will be performing annual maintenance in our Learning Management System by moving courses from Spring 2017-Spring 2020 to an offline archive. These courses will no longer be available within Blackboard. Courses from Summer 2020 to the present and template courses will not be affected at this time. This is part of our regular Blackboard maintenance and is conducted in order to retain space in the system for courses in upcoming semesters, and prevent an overload of information for faculty and students who have been enrolled in courses from 2017 to the present.

If you are an instructor and would like to retain a personal copy of any of your courses from between Spring 2017-Spring 2020, please ensure that you have archived and exported your courses to a device for your personal records by Monday, June 19th.

Need Help Putting Together a Successful Grant Proposal?

On behalf of Office of Research and Sponsored Programs

CSU Pueblo has recently employed Hanover research to provide targeted guidance for the university's programmatic and research grant activities by helping faculty and staff craft the most competitive submissions to secure more external grant funding.

Hanover is available to provide insights to identify, craft, and submit the most competitive proposals, including - Capacity Development (the development of the institutional capacity to pursue and manage grant funding through training, strategic assessment, and benchmarking.

Includes grantsmanship workshops, one-on-one guidance, and cohort-based support through Hanover's Grant Academy); Funding Research (exploring and evaluating grant opportunities aligned to programs, funding levels, and research needs.

Facilitates planning through research on historical and future funding trends while monitoring which funders our peers are targeting.); Pre-Proposal Support (streamlining the assessment and development of competitive project concepts, helping to navigate funder expectations and providing coaching on program officer outreach before proposal development; Proposal Support (helping bolster grant proposal projects through hands-on review and revision services, ensuring that the most competitive proposals are submitted; and Proposal Development (providing primary writing and project management capabilities, ushering institutional teams from iterative drafts to polished, on-time submissions).

If you are interested in the Hanover offerings, please contact the Executive Director of Research for additional information and to enter your project into the queue. Also, an overview of the Hanover offerings can be found via the link below.

Researchers and Program Managers, Update Your CITI Compliance Training Requirements

On behalf of Office of Research and Sponsored Programs

Please ensure that your CITI Program Compliance training is current as required by the University and state and federal funding agencies.

Compliance is a critical part of the operation of any university, and non-compliance can negatively affect not only a single researcher but all university researchers. CSU Pueblo provides all faculty, staff, and students with the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI Program) for its research compliance training requirements.

New to the CITI Program? CITI is utilized by the Top-25 Best National Universities, 95% of Carnegie R1 Research Universities, more than 12 million users, with more than 22 million total course completions.

With the recent influx of federal funding across the university, institutional compliance and proof of individual research compliance training and updates have become an even more essential requirement. In addition, individual non-compliance can also lead to research misconduct, so don’t delay!

To access the Office of Research and Sponsored Program’s Compliance Training Requirements and CITI Sign up/in instructions, follow the link below.

Fall 2023 Course - Cannabis Regulation

On behalf of the Cannabis, Biology, Chemistry (CBC) Program

CBC 491 3 credits Tuesday / Thursday 2:00-3:20

No prerequisite – open to all majors

Cannabis legal reform was launched by various States who dared to defy social convention and an entrenched culture of prohibition. Early reform efforts focused on limited decriminalization of marijuana by individuals who wished to cultivate the plant for personal medical treatment. As reform gained ground, a legitimate industry began to take shape despite the significant constraints presented by federal prohibition.

Non-psychoactive varieties of Cannabis, commonly called hemp, became a popular focus of reform as new technologies and markets emerged for Cannabis as a more energy-efficient, and less expensive substitute for a growing variety of household and industrial applications. Government regulators, law enforcement agents, and courts face increasing pressure to solve novel and enduring challenges in managing emerging interstate markets for Cannabis and Cannabis products.

This writing-intensive course explores the evolving landscape of Cannabis legal reform as it is now manifesting at the federal, state, and local levels. It seeks a broad and cohesive understanding of what has changed, why, and how change was even possible in the first place. Students should gain a deeper understanding of federalism, congressional powers, interstate commerce, the discriminatory origins of the War on Drugs, as well as policy considerations taken by states seeking to legalize medical or adult-use marijuana, and hemp. This course is an excellent complement to those studying cannabis, economics, history, sociology, anthropology, or criminal justice or pre-law.

Fall 2023 Course - Pharmaceutical Chemistry, CHEM 491

On behalf of Chemistry

You have likely seen advertisements on TV promoting new medications. Pharmaceutical companies such as, Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer, Eli Lilly, Abbvie, Bristol Myers Squibb, and Merck, are always looking for emerging biologists, chemists, and engineers from schools like CSU Pueblo.

As a 40 year veteran of one of these pharmaceutical giants, I want to share the available opportunities in this field. The topics covered include the diverse specialized work that you would encounter and likely get to choose from. Being a practicing synthetic organic chemist in both chemical development and large-scale production technical services, I will be teaching the molecular progression from lab-scale discovery to post-launch, long-term production of ton-scale agricultural, pharmaceutical, and antibiotic molecular structures. This course also covers techniques and strategies employed to quickly and successfully solve a myriad of challenges in this field.
