This Week At Westminster

Prayer List

As Adrienne Maree Brown has taught us, "what you put your attention on grows."

There are many things that need our attention. too many things, truly. We are asked - we are required - to carry more in our minds, hearts, bodies, (all of us and also some of us more than others), than is really humanly possible...

...this perspective. that product. this idea. that limitation. this boundary. that threat. this possibility but not that one or that one or that one. this truth not that one. this form of suffering and not that one. this struggle, not that one. not those...

Where is attention funneled - from our listening, to our imagination, to the resources of our day?

Is it in alignment with our values, to a degree with which we are satisfied?

Yes, there are compromises we must make. Yes, there are some things beyond our control. And also, yes, there are ways we practice our agency in the midst.

May we be faithful to whom and to what we offer the gift of our attention, that we may be a part of sharing this resource with only what we wish to see grow in the world.

  • those who are overwhelmed by the difficult personal situations;
  • all who live in the midst of violence and war - in Gaza and Israel, Ukraine and Russia, Congo and El Salvador, and many other places across the world; your peace, O God, to overcome our dependence on violence and warfare;
  • authentic conversations about difficult topics, bridging chasms between us;

Celebrating Being Good Neighbors

September 8

Ice Cream Social

Welcoming COW Students and Celebrating the Success of the Mustard Seed Campaign

Our Westminster community takes seriously caring for our neighbors near and far. We want to show our love and care in tangible way.

So on September 8, come join us for ice cream and brownies, good conversations and laughter following worship.

We will be celebrating our longtime partnership with students from the COW. We'd love to offer a warm welcome to old friends and new as you begin your adventure of learning and fun this Fall.

2024 is Westminster's anniversary year. To mark 150 years of ministry in this community, Westminster launched the Mustard Seed anniversary mission project to help eliminate overwhelming medical debt for families in Wayne and the surrounding counties. Our project ran for 4 months from February through May.

We are excited to report that we succeeded in erasing over 4.2 million dollars worth of debt! With the generosity and friendship of so many of you in our wider community in Wooster and beyond, we practiced being good neighbors with 3,871 families!

Together we have planted seeds that grew into this amazing "shrub" to provide shade - comfort and hope - the possibility of a new beginning toward a more wholesome life for so many in our extended neighborhoods. Abundance beyond our imagination!

Bring a friend and join us in celebrating on September 8th:

in worship at 10:00 am and at the ice cream social afterwards!

Now to the One who by the power at work within us is able to accomplish abundantly far more than all we can ask or imagine, to God be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen. (Ephesians 3:20-21)

Prayer Request and Privacy Laws

Please note, that because of government privacy laws, hospitals and care centers no longer are allowed to notify churches that a person has been admitted (even if the person lists their home church at admission). The only way that the church staff will know if someone is hospitalized is if a family member or friend lets us know. We'd rather get 20 calls about the same person than none! Thanks for your help in making Westminster a caring community. Contact the Westminster Office by phone 330-263-2398 or email to notify the church if you or someone you know is hospitalized or otherwise in need of our prayers!
