REJUVENATION LEADS TO HEALTHIER PLANTS

Many landscape shrubs naturally grow larger and more rapidly than the desired height for their planting. When kept pruned to the appropriate height, many shrubs become twiggy and unattractive. Additionally, as happened this year, cold winter weather can burn back some shrubs, leaving them looking dead. To address either of these situations, we have adopted rejuvenation pruning to bring them back to their desired size. The challenge is that after cutting them back, it often appears as though the plants have been killed. However, as shown in the pictures above, most shrubs grow back and look much better throughout the season. The images above depict plants rejuvenated last spring, which, by now, look great, making it hard to remember that they were cut back nearly to the ground just six months ago.

MORE EXAMPLES OF REJUVENATION REGROWTH BELOW

Again, these may appear drastic but in our experience after implementing this philosophy in our winter pruning practices, we are seeing healthier, more natural looking shrubs maintained at their desired height in the landscape.
