Dear Families,
While some aspects of thankfulness come along with developmental milestones, there are things that we can do to help our children better understand and express appreciation–and it’s beneficial for everyone!
We want to raise children to be competent and confident. We also hope they develop deep and meaningful relationships with their family and friends. Regardless of how we show appreciation, when we do, our children learn to appreciate their family and community more.
All parents have the necessary tools to teach this essential lesson to their children. There’s nothing you need to buy. All you have to do is be mindful. Focus on how you show your child appreciation. Pay attention to ways you demonstrate how much you care about them.
Those who are raised knowing how to feel and express appreciation are far more likely to grow up to be well-rounded individuals, with a greater level of self-efficacy and interpersonal skills, which is a lifelong skill.
