A Message from Pastor Matt
|
|
Dear Friends!
What a week of weather it has been! Snow and hail and sun and rain! Who knows what will happen next?! The only thing I do know is that this Sunday we will be reminded together that with our God there is always the chance that something new and good will dawn when we least expect it. Every year that brings me comfort, but this year in particular. Come and hear the story of a few determined women trying to explain the inexplicable to friends. And come and hear about a God who often shocks the world. Come and catch your breath and celebrate that we live as people of hope. Invite a friend and come as you are. I am looking forward to singing and praying and reflecting together. And I hope that you will leave our church this Sunday with a slightly greater sense of hope and purpose.
God is good and has given us a wonderful calling!
Pastor Matt

P.S. As I was writing my sermon, I came upon these artistic images of the foot washing. I thought that those of us who can’t make it to a service this week (or those who can!) could use these images as a way to prompt your prayer times. I encourage you to find 5-10 minutes of quiet or some music in your earbuds and pray through these slides. You might read the account in John 13 before you begin. I guarantee that you likely will feel some tension as you pray through these. You will have difficulty loving all those represented. But, that is the point. Jesus' willingness to love and serve every human being. Today, he calls you and I to do the same. Click here for images.
Be blessed. Give thanks. Serve your neighbor.

"Bear one another's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the love of Christ." (Galatians 6:2, NRSV)
Commissioning of Stephen Ministry Leaders
Stephen Ministry, a Christian lay caring ministry for those in need, is a vital part of our congregation's mission. On April 24, we will commission Nancie Parmenter, Jan Kennedy Ferguson, Karen Wheeler, and Dick Petermann to begin service as Stephen Leaders in our congregation. We'll take time to pray for and show our support for this caring ministry and these people who God has called and equipped for this important role.

Senegal Virtual Tour
Sundays, April 24 - May 15
10:30-11:30AM - Fellowship Hall
Due to COVID, Columbia is still not making our annual trip to Senegal in 2022. Instead we will be presenting our 2022 Virtual Tour of Senegal as we did in 2021. On this tour, we will be visiting with a number of missionaries and ministry groups we have relationships with in Senegal -- most of which are long-term. This time together will allow us to get the updates on their activities and to hear their prayer requests. We will be holding live sessions at 10:30AM in the Fellowship Hall and simultaneously offering the tour via Zoom. The link will be available in next week's Columbia Weekly.
